Without asylum:

Marks and Spencer wouldn't exist

Queen would have been without a front man

The other queen wouldn't have had a husband

Judith Kerr would never have written The Tiger Who Came to Tea

And thousands of less famous people wouldn't have been teachers, politicians, neighbours, etc

It is mental that civil servants can't accept a fruit basket but MPs can receive gifts of under £300 and not declare them
Following up last RT, it is stunning how much Parliament's rules are out of step with not just the private sector, but the civil service and local councils research.mysociety.org/html/beyond-...

This actually happened to a (Sikh) friend of mine c1997 (in one of the more prosperous suburbs of Glasgow, too!) 🤦
Am reminded of the old Glasgow joke. “Aye, but are you a Protestant Muslim or a Catholic Muslim?”

Just raise income tax! Basic and higher rates!

And if you want to minimise salary sacrifice/pension dumping, bring down the 45p band to £80/90k and scrap the personal allowance withdrawal. It’ll raise more and might even be popular.

The clever thing about going for stuff like the cycle for work scheme is it’s really noticeable, affects people with lots of media access and platforms, annoys green groups, and raises almost no revenue at the same time. Real win/win/win there.

A good example of someone using "economically inactive" to mean "available for work but choosing not to" and forgetting it covers students, early retirees, carers, severely disabled people, parents with very young children etc...
What on earth is this nonsense from a Blue Labour MP?

What, you want a policy targeting zero illness, no full time caring responsibilities, no skills mismatches or career breaks and you think we should heavily crack down on migration until we get there?

Just not serious policy/politics.

Oh ffs, this is just stupid and lazy. Not a trace of real interest in showing how knitting works.

Everyone's being let down by #Gameofwool, even Tom Daley. I'm very disappointed in the judges not insisting on better. Surprised no-one jumped ship when they realised quite how rubbish it really is.
also, WHAT IS THIS AI SLOP DOING ON THE KNITTING SHOW?

it's becoming so obvious that the producers don't actually care about knitting at all and just wanted a quirky game show format #GameofWool

You're not going to like it, though.

Meanwhile, Watson won a Nobel off that work & survived to the ripe old age of 97 by simply: stealing those notes!

They should have advertised who everyone was playing for, throughout. Popped it under their names everytime they were in the diary room.

The opportunity for tens and tens and tens of millions of pounds of free advertising for charities, totally wasted #CelebrityTraitors
I mean the BBC should do a nominal donation to all the charities tbf #CelebrityTraitors
