2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Benjamin Britten (1913-1976). Peter Grimes, the Serenade and War Requiem are among my all time favourite works. This year I'm going to try to listen to every Britten piece, in the order he wrote them. Why not join me? #TheCompleteBritten

People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

The Kennedy Center adopted bylaws earlier this year that limited voting to presidentially appointed trustees — not those designated by Congress — a move that preceded the dubious vote to add Trump's name to the center.

Legal experts say the move may conflict with the institution's charter.
Kennedy Center changed board rules months before vote to add Trump’s name
The cultural center said only trustees appointed by the president could vote, barring other members, including Democrats who hold seats, from decisions.

when you see this but don’t see the post it’s in reference to, you picture an entirely different Beethoven doing this (still works though)
Sadly, I now sort of expect a clip of Beethoven rampaging through a living room to now be included in one of those DHS fascist nostalgia videos.
Fascists truly cannot distinguish fiction from reality

i know his feast day is tomorrow but today was dark & bleak and today feels like the right day to watch BECKET (1964), a companion piece of sorts to THE LION IN WINTER, with both, of course, starring Peter O’Toole as Henry II
