It is genuinely hilarious to think Bezos adds anything to the game this late into the hype cycle other than $$$ to burn and his capacity to create infamously toxic work environments that will, in the future, spin out 10-20 startups staffed by the most psychotic and evil managers known to mankind.

Jonathan Drouin wanted to finish his career with the #Avs. The math just didn't work, and it was time for him to look out for himself and his family.

Turns out the gains he made as a player in Denver have traveled with him to Long Island.

People have this stupid sense in their broken brains that the only two possible outcomes are total capitulation and voting to impeach a president, without dealing with the vast continuum of things that happen formally and informally between those two extremes.

made a similar point on the opinions podcast this week in response to the idea that epstein is a dead end. not only are actual voters interested in this but it divides the gop and puts pressure on the president. it would be political malpractice to treat it as a sideshow
The usual suspects are telling Dems that Epstein won’t win elections, get back to “affordability” and I think my head might explode. www.offmessage.net/p/force-a-re...

the only part of Eastern Passage that vibes like a fishing village is Fisherman's Cove and as far as I know there are no plans to build a four-storey building on the boardwalk. also why isn't the golf course two minutes down the street ruining her fishing community? curious!
This is the crux of the issue.

"I want my cute fishing village but there are no jobs here, so you better make it so I can drive downtown in 20 minutes, no matter how much it costs!!!"

According to current tax data and a cost-to-service model by the city, Eastern Passage loses roughly $5 million per year, covering only about ~70% of its operating costs.

The fiscally responsible choices are to allow density, starkly raises taxes, or cut services to the point of "oops, no roads"
I would like to challenge this assertion by an Eastern Passage resident, she said: “It’s not rocket science: you don’t put high-density units in between single-family dwellings. That’s not good city planning.”

I would argue that it is, and a mix of densities is good for cities & their residents.

Thatcher's government did this with Section 28, banned the "promotion of homosexuality" as a danger to children, while actively protecting Jimmy Savile and who knows how many other pedophiles. It's the same damn playbook.
I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

What makes people furious is of course how the NYT uses its own wide discretion about what to pursue, what to beat the drum on, when to have qualms about running with something, and when to just put it out there. There’s the rules, and then there’s the rules about when you apply the rules.
