Here it is! My 2025 award eligibility post!
"10 Visions of the Future; or, Self-Care For the End of Days" is a love letter about life under a doomsday cult, and a quick read! I'd be delighted for anyone to consider it for their short story ballots. ;D

And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, never danced with the devil in the pale moonlight.
And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, is a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create...life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.
And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, is-- and always shall be-- your friend.

I got the question a lot at a previous historical society job (when will you digitize it all?) And even in that small space we estimated 45 million pieces of paper. Not counting photos!
When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.
Seems like it's worth posting this one again.

This is my fave thing to facilitate as an archivist. My job is to know my collection well enough to offer related material researchers don't even think to ask for. If they don't know it exists, why/how would they turn it up otherwise?
yes, this is a crucial aspect of research for me - finding useful stuff in the process I wasn’t actually looking for
Not a historian but like to research. The AI might summarize what I'm looking for, but it doesn't find what I'm *not* looking for. The book on the shelf next to the one I wanted. The insight in chapter 6 based on the quote I needed from chapter 4.

Okay, I have a stacked list for novel, poetry, and short stories for my nomination ballots. But I am really lacking in the novellette, novella categories. What are some of the best novellettes or novellas you've read this year?

My kids were making little gifts for family and discussing what kind of candy the adults might want, and they said "snickers😒" and "butterfinger😒" with the same disdain we used to reserve for "werther's." The kids are harsh!!
I was just berated by a group of 24 year olds because they said I had "Old People's candy" in my office. The candy in question...

and Tiny Tim, eternal, unchanging, wanders still ... :D
"And Tiny Tim, who did not die" = heartwarming, Christmassy.

"And Tiny Tim, who would not die" = sinister, alarming.

I just went digging through my high school diaries trying to confirm a memory for an essay and...my god. MY GOD. It was a crime to hand 17yo Sam a journal. What a mortifying mess of teen drama, horniness, and disaster. I barely recognize the person in there. These must never see the light of day.

One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential
