if you genuinely think Schumer and Democratic leadership opposed this & Republicans coincidentally got exactly the number of votes they needed to avoid a filibuster and none of those votes are from Democratic Senators who are up for reelection in the midterms next year, I have a bridge to sell you.

Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.

Ugh I do nottt miss the mandatory smile from my retail days. I got pretty good at an expression I can only describe as "technically enough of a smile to stay out of trouble but not so warm that men would think I was flirting" (it mostly worked)

I've been deleting nonessential phone apps and blocking access to sites like bsky during work hours and it's been great. Next on my list is to buy a watch again, so I don't have to keep picking my phone up to check the time (just touching it ignites the urge to check my email/messages!)
One of the reasons I love retro-SF futures is because they speak to this increasing trend of turning shit off and disconnecting devices. When AWS goes down and bricks your bed, fridge, and thermostat, the appeal of analog is keenly felt.

My salty take that I usually only whisper to my sister is that publishers are pushing a lot of $32 collectible hardcovers with contents better suited for the mass market rack. The books are fine! But they're not worth thirty two american dollars!!(and then many underperform and everyone's surprised)
The death of the mass market paperback means the cheapest book options are now 50% more expensive. Welcome to the book affordability crisis.

But they're not worth thirty two american dollars!!(and then many underperform and everyone's surprised)
I made a silly thing for my husband and thought it would be fun to share: SAM'S DIEGETIC MIX TAPE! 99 songs from 99 movies, all playing in-universe (either "live" like a lounge singer or concert scene, or playing on a device, just as long as it's audible to the characters). No biopics. No musicals.
