This is why I think we need to let go the ‘no kings’ stuff and start talking oligarchy. We have to recognize this is not about one singular garbage ass man, but about an entire class of people that can start/stop wars based on their own economic interests.
I am very annoyed that people think 'rich' means 'that guy has a mercedes and takes a vacation to italy once a year' and not 'that guy has more money than 40% of the world combined and can decide to start or stop wars based on his personal prejudices'

the sums involved are incomprehensible

The cross-partisan delegitimation of human rights in Britain by Labour and Tory and then Reform has been an absolute disaster and handed an open goal to the far right.
The transphobes at the top of the “Labour” Party are, more than most, responsible for making Reform’s rights-stripping agenda possible.

Keir Starmer,
Wes Streeting,
Shabana Mahmoud,
Bridget Philippson,
Yvette Cooper

and all those who failed to speak up against Labour’s transphobia.
More than almost anyone else Sodha’s faux-reasonable anti-trans diatribes in the Guardian - claiming *concern* about women’s rights - contributed to undermining the Equality Act.

If Reform gets in cis women will lose every gain they fought for since the 1960s, thanks to “journalists” like her.

If I had a nickel for every nostalgic animated film that could be applicable to the struggles of '81-'91 Millennials for mobility and housing, and the character dynamics reflecting the anxieties of shifting life priorities... it'd be two nickels converted to 10p, but it's odd that it happened twice.

World War I played a huge part in Moby Dick's re-evaluation; people found it implausible that Captain Ahab would be so fanatically driven by hatred and revenge, much less endanger his crew for it, but by the 1920s, such madness and bloodlust didn't seem so outlandish anymore.
We are governed by a coalition of Huck Finn’s dad, the insane race war rant from Gatsby, and Ahab’s mad quest for vengeance.

I just re-read Frankenstein last month and it's certainly not "outdated garbage".

We read old books, watch old movies to both see how we have changed, but also how we have stayed the same.

Frankenstein is a book about a guy who didn't ask whether he SHOULD, and also who fucked his kid up.

This is a madness rune for people, but this basic fact, "voting for the imaginary Trump in their heads" during an inflationary period, is exactly why there is no magical policy position Harris could've taken that would've guaranteed a different outcome.
Literally millions of people voted for the imaginary Trump in their heads and are extremely upset that they got Actually Existing Trump, because they're dumb motherfuckers rather than truly depraved monsters.
it has never been more over.

I understand framing the AI bubble RAM supply crisis in terms of stuff like video game consoles because nerds can conceptualize that but the framing does really undersell the sheer magnitude of how it's going to fuck up everything that even touches a computer.
