I would bet a lot of money that most people feel the same.
"We want to give people money directly so they can negotiate their own rates with an insurer!" I would pay a substantial premium to never ever have to interact with a health insurance company ever for any reason

It’s crazy that instead of this we have a patchwork of ppl paid privately to drive around the city clearing snow from random homes, ppl doing it themselves and having heart attacks, and uncleared sidewalks.
I know that many other cities don’t plow their sidewalks, leaving it up to property owners. This is completely crazy to me.

Our sidewalk plows look like this and they do a pretty good job.

The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

Tour de force of investigative journalism here. Globe obtained evidence and made connections that Judge Wyant did not. Also, Globe confirmed former Edmonton Police Chief Dale McFee was guest of Sam Mraiche at Oilers game. EPS failed to be forthright with me when I raised this in a previous story. 1

Just saw a mother with several small children and a stroller struggling to get through the snow.

If we were to #PlowTheSidewalks it would benefit everyone, no matter how they get around.
So many haters have told us it would never snow again and that we were fighting a fool’s errand…

This gets at the fundamentally flawed approach of the federal government: they are trying to find a policy solution to an identity problem.

It is part of the polarized, populist identity to be opposed to an Ottawa and Liberal Canada are not them. No policy will change that, as TMX revealed.

100%. There's no such thing as "AI", there are various somewhat related technologies that manage huge amounts of information in powerful ways. Some are fantastic, some are stupid, and it's pretty easy to tell the difference.
part of the reason i am genuinely irritated with the gAI/AGI cult is because there is real societal benefits in using ML techniques in medical care + weather analysis, and instead people get annoyed with anything that gets lumped in with the plagiarism machine
We could save soooo many lives but people are so caught up in their reactionary moral panic nonsense

fwiw, i think there was some value in Ottawa proving that they weren't the ones constraining conventional energy production, because the future of Alberta comes down to the UCP's desire to make money vs their desire to become separatists

Danielle Smith tried to sell her federal-Alberta energy deal to the UCP convention crowd: tepid applause.
She told them that this proved Canada can work well for Alberta’s interests: loud boos.

This ain’t a base that wants Smith to work with a Liberal PM on a better industrial carbon tax.

This is why folks call it a tool of fascism. It generates fear and distrust, which benefits fascist liars.
one insidious thing about gen AI is it's not just causing us to mistrust dodgy images, it's also making us mistrust images that look perfectly normal. this is gaslighting in a very literal sense bc the technology is undermining the trust we have in our own ability to perceive reality!

I find the 'the Democrats won't do anything' doomer line annoying, because the Democrats will be who you make them - look how much the GOP changed over the past decade!

Right now the party feels immovable but the moment it has a presidential nominee, it will be whatever that person is.

These aren't pedestrians, it shouldn't be legal for them to be on a sidewalk. Governments have got to start cracking down on this stuff. Heavy fines on any company that tries to pull this kind of thing.
Just as you thought food delivery companies couldn't inflict any more misery on society:

Instead of using lowly-paid gig economy contractors to deliver groceries, they're replacing humans with robots, who, in turn, force humans off the pavement into road traffic.

Ok, sure, let’s call it a shared responsibility, but let’s apportion that responsibility proportional to how much capacity for destruction each party in the equation has.
When a pedestrian is not paying attention and walks into something, no one dies. When a driver is not paying attention and drives into something people are often injured/killed. How long will it fucking take for society to STOP EQUATING THE TWO?
Cllr Atkinson asks about educating public re: pedestrian injuries/deaths. Deputy Chief O'Brien says peds + drivers both need education. People are being hit in crosswalks + jaywalking. Drivers not paying attention. "We’re trying to target everybody because it is a shared responsibility." #yyccc

The Calgary economy is gonna be great when we are smothered in firesmoke and in a drought but a couple more years of pretending its 2004 again will be fun.
Today’s MOU is a win for Calgary, Alberta, and Canada. It supports investment and new export routes while recognizing energy in all its forms — oil and gas, renewables, hydrogen, and more. Grateful for the PM and Premier’s cooperation. Full statement: #yyccc
