We suspended teachers’ Charter rights because we just don’t want to pay them fairly is a hell of a position for a government to take.
From the DM's...

UCP MLA says via email that the decision to use the notwithstanding clause was not just about getting students into classrooms...

The UCP were worried that arbitration would cost them "hundreds of millions, potentially billions".

Has any prime minister ever gotten less political value out of a giant investment than Justin Trudeau got from TMX? Obviously environmental groups/voters were never going to like it, and most everyone else just pretends it never happened because it complicates the narrative.

This is a recurring theme for Halifax over the last 10+(?) years.

"I was voted in by present day voters to keep taxes low, not voters 10 years in the future to "have running water". Those people can go suck a lemon!"

Many such cases!

When council’s keep fees, charges, and taxes artificially low. Looking at you #yyccc
Oh, this is fun. Halifax Water's rates are going up so much now because they burned surpluses to keep the rates artificially low instead of using those surpluses to invest in needed infrastructure, so now we're catching up to 2020 and 2022's lack of investment.

Some on council will burn down the city before giving 1 (one) person a home. (Yes, I'm salty about the upcoming downzoning)
Calgary city council is debating eliminating the CTrain free fare zone downtown. Motion by Chabot who says it's arguably become a safe injection site. Interesting: admin's already been considering this. Says it'd allow for simpler enforcement for peace officers, reduce crowding at peak hrs. #yyccc

It’s just a crime against humanity. There’s no war. Hegseth is just out here ordering the killing of civilians.
Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) says Pete Hegseth should "resign immediately" if it's true he gave a directive to “kill everybody” in a strike on boats in the Caribbean, including a second strike to kill survivors of the first strike.

“If the reports are true, Pete Hegseth likely committed a war crime."

This explains something that has always mystified me about drivers who rail against bike lanes and transit. Why WOULDN'T you want people to have options not to drive? It would make your own driving better! But they don't just want good traffic, they want to reinforce the NORM of driving
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

I would bet a lot of money that most people feel the same.
"We want to give people money directly so they can negotiate their own rates with an insurer!" I would pay a substantial premium to never ever have to interact with a health insurance company ever for any reason

It’s crazy that instead of this we have a patchwork of ppl paid privately to drive around the city clearing snow from random homes, ppl doing it themselves and having heart attacks, and uncleared sidewalks.
I know that many other cities don’t plow their sidewalks, leaving it up to property owners. This is completely crazy to me.

Our sidewalk plows look like this and they do a pretty good job.

This gets at the fundamentally flawed approach of the federal government: they are trying to find a policy solution to an identity problem.

It is part of the polarized, populist identity to be opposed to an Ottawa and Liberal Canada are not them. No policy will change that, as TMX revealed.

100%. There's no such thing as "AI", there are various somewhat related technologies that manage huge amounts of information in powerful ways. Some are fantastic, some are stupid, and it's pretty easy to tell the difference.
part of the reason i am genuinely irritated with the gAI/AGI cult is because there is real societal benefits in using ML techniques in medical care + weather analysis, and instead people get annoyed with anything that gets lumped in with the plagiarism machine
We could save soooo many lives but people are so caught up in their reactionary moral panic nonsense

one insidious thing about gen AI is it's not just causing us to mistrust dodgy images, it's also making us mistrust images that look perfectly normal. this is gaslighting in a very literal sense bc the technology is undermining the trust we have in our own ability to perceive reality!
