Let's talk about generative AI, contaminated information, and rhubarb.

Once upon a time, Europe was at war.

Food was scarce, and the government of the quote-unquote United Kingdom looked for alternatives. 1/

Parents, if you didn't have a problem until now of not posting pics of your kids on public social media, now might be a good time to start (and maybe scrub what's there already).

Failing to anticipate people would use your image generation bot to make consentless-pornography should be criminal incompetence.

Failing to include safeguards against it should be criminal negligence.

Failing to shut it down once (a) and (b) became obvious should be criminal distribution.

feels like the met should raid x: the everything app’s office, shut them down, confiscate their hard drives and, if they find any csam, prosecute the ceo and put them on the sex offenders’ register

this is what i like to call “the moderate position”

I'm going with "they have taken no steps, don't intend to take any steps, and if ofcom tries to enforce any penalties, Musk will laugh until he cries."
Ofcom, which enforces the UK's Online Safety Act, says it is aware of "serious concerns" about Grok undressing people including children on X

“We have made urgent contact with X and xAI to understand what steps they have taken to comply with their legal duties to protect users in the UK," it says

A long time ago, Wombat posted something like "there was a photo album that showed you didn't have to photo the whole animal to capture its essence, but I can't find it,"
I replied "do you mean my swans?"
He said yes, that was it, and a bit of silliness was born.

On the grounds that sitting here doomscrolling all day will achieve nothing other than giving me a sore scrolling finger, I'm off to the sewing machine with "Sherlock Holmes" on BBC Sounds.
My advice (worth exactly what you paid for it, obviously) is to get offline if you can.

The Government coming off X is the bare minimum and realistically at this point I think we should seriously be looking at taking enforcement action against the company, in line with the Online Safety Act and VAWG Strategy. I will be pressing the Government on this when Parliament returns next week.
