US attack on Venezuela clearly illegal under UN charter - Helen Clark
The former PM says there is a case for Nicolás Maduro to appear before a criminal court, but the attack wasn't legal.

Hey #nzpol, how does 400,000 of 1,800,000 records equal between 6 and 7 percent?
Also, has anyone actually heard that their data has been exposed or not because I haven't? Genuinely interested if anyone has heard anything.

We are now past the point where corporate media commentary and embedded advertising are justifiable. This is going to get MUCH worse over 2026 unless there are consequences

The best feeling is when a high schooler somehow finds one of my zines online and reaches out via email to share that they've been inspired to create their own and if I would want to receive a hard copy. The answer is always:
kermit the frog is standing in front of a red curtain with his arms outstretched .

Not sure how bad the deepfake problem is? Read Stella's farewell thread.

This is an extreme form of remote sexual harassment that can now be used to target anyone, regardless of platform, in seconds. Despite news stories focusing mostly on CSAM it's still unchecked and rampant on Twitter.
I‘m discontinuing my social media use for the foreseeable future and I want to explain why.

I woke up in the new year to discover that some guy on here had saved photos I took on New Year’s Eve and used Grok to remove my clothes. I know this because he showed me.

This is why you can't just go learn from random reviews. They're always just one person's opinion, and someone else has the opposite one.

bsky.app/profile/most...
whenever this discussion comes up, I always show these two reviews which are for the same book.

Every time this topic circles around, someone inevitably will be like, "don't you want to learn? you should read your reviews and learn from them!"

no you should not. ever!!!!!! LOL

Agree with this whole thread up & down (especially the part where someone who sends you critique like that discussed is NOT your friend!)

If you want to write professionally you have to get ok with the idea of your work being critiqued.

That does not mean you have to read the critiques.
Multiple things can be true at the same time.

Readers have the right to dislike a work.

Being disliked is a sign of being read.

Reviewers have the right to dislike and critique a work.

It's often hard to avoid seeing such reviews, and authors can often feel very vulnerable.

We are human.

Hear me out... but what if both the quality and financial health of NZ media sharply improved by a return to running government propaganda as paid advertising rather than (fake) news? #nzpol

I hate this from Brown. A ‘wake up call’ implies this is something new or unforeseen when in reality it is not and any entity, public or private, holding such sensitive data, should have prioritised not just security but regular security testing/auditing as a necessary cost of business.

i've gone on and on for years about the pressures & incentives for NZ media, especially corporate, & been constantly told by VERY serious people & media workers that it's not a big deal, that I don't understand how media works & that "murdoch isn't here so NZ doesn't have to worry" but hey 🤷‍♀️

This was easily one of my GOTY for 2023.
PLAY IT.
Sales shout-out to Labyrinth Of Galleria. Lowest price ever. A Wizardry-style dungeon crawl by the Disgaea team, which means it is an absurd, maximalist monster with unhinged mechanics (kick down walls!) and you can have a 40-character party.

Also runs amazing/low-battery drain on the Steam Deck!
