Looking at Luxon's Facebook page, of the 9 latest posts 1 is for the current weather, another is a repost of another MPs post on the weather, and the other 7 are about the State of Origin or Chinese New Year.

It's clearly time for urgent and robust discussions about value, access, climate, well-being, transport choice & more.

We are extremely here for it.

#nzpol No worries, the National/NZ First/ ACT coalition govt has made sure that Auckland and Queenstown's wealthy and sorted are financially cushioned. As for the rest of us, we're on your own. But, don't worry, Chris Luxon has a Aussie game to watch so he's really positive we're back on track. 🙄🤬

If we need $100-200b to fix infrastructure why are we spending $55b on building new highways? Why would we not borrow to invest in infrastructure that can endure future bad weather?

This is the National Party I know.

Pasting ChatGPT to Facebook. Campaigning, not helping.

While storms battered the country, they posed for photos — made for social media. ✨

No action. No leadership. Just fluff.

That's National.
Vain. Lazy. Useless.

Sometimes the smallest gestures say the most.

People who care about environmental issues move to the left side of politics because they are rooted in the same basic philosophies.

You don't see pro-environment right wing politicians because they don't want to impose regulations/costs on businesses.

As a nurse I take this shit personally.

Throughout history there are huge leaps forward in our ability to reduce mortality & morbidity. Running water & sanitation. Transplants. Antibiotics. Reliable life support systems.

Vaccination is arguably the highest reward for lowest cost of ALL OF THEM.
Vaccines are truly one of the most incredible things in all of human history. We founds ways to literally defeat communicable deadly diseases at almost no cost and at no harm to ourselves.

And someone who had literal brain worms is working to undermine that and get people killed.

The Trump years were dark. But in little NZ they never lost hope. For NZ had a leader of rare and inspiring character.
In the face of endless climate disaster and economic implosion, he always had just the right uplifting words:
"Welcome to IKEA"
"Welcome to State of Origin"
"Check out my Spotify"

It really feels like Luxon keeps to his schedule and won't change it because he's delegated disaster response to others & will only swoop in for photo ops.

American culture of the 1840’s would have been *very fucking surprised* to see the Irish considered as co-founders.

Elon’s an ahistorical dipshit, but its always worth saying some stuff out loud: if you‘re a fellow Irish-American and you aren’t 100% pro-immigrant, you’re a fucking embarassment.
1/3 What Musk is really referring to here is, of course “race” - that construct that served to define the hierarchies of wealth & power structured by modern colonialism. Like other far right racists though, he uses the word “culture” as a seemingly less pernicious synonym.

Quick, dirty and expensive. The govt is going to build a $1 billion liquid natural gas (LNG) import terminal, instead of investing in clean energy. And as for the levy…if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…
