Today in electric motorcycle news...

Nothing really 'news-y' but I put together a playlist of my electric motorcycle POV videos I've been doing on YouTube. Starting off with where I simply had my iPhone in a chest harness, to now where I have a Dji Action 5 on my helmet.

Everything that Paul says plus the fact that statistically, and provably, ICE vehicles are way more likely to catch on fire than an EV.

Sounds like someone got FUD’ed with disinformation about EVs.
By all means bring in flammable liquid and a device to set fire to it but do not bring in a thing with batteries that has very few moving parts that might cause disaster.
Clap. Clap. Clap.

Affected residents have called the ban 'silly' and 'unreasonable', taking it to mediation.

I mean, it's honestly one of the least worst things Elsevier has done, but buying and then leaving Mendeley to die abandoned is just part of the awfulness they've done

It is worth noting that this is a pattern amongst the likes of media, who inevitably paint a woman who has laid harassment, assault, rape, etc allegations against men as somehow less than pure & innocent, thus casting aspersions on her validity, with whatever denials that this is what they're doing.
It bears remembering that this woman, according to the IPCA report, sent at least 36 emails to media outlets, presumaby including NZME, as well as the PM, Police Minister, and police command in Dec 2023 & Jan 2024, and they did fuck-all about it too

Perspective with Heather du Plessis-Allan: The woman in the Jevon McSkimming saga wasn't innocent here
So it turns out the woman with whom Jevon McSkimming had an affair, whose warnings police ignored and who police charged instead of investigating McSkimmin

There were 159,000 written submissions on the Regulatory Standards Bill (on top of over 23,000 submissions last year) - numbers that are second only to the Treaty Principles Bill in NZ’s history.

More than 98% of public submissions were opposed.

There’s a word for this, but it’s not democracy.

This really is an exceptional video and provides a huge service to the urban biking conversation around the world, and particularly here in North America and places like Australia/New Zealand. The length may scare you a bit, but if you really want to understand, it’s worth it.

I even have a cameo.
WATCH: If you REALLY want to understand a BIG reason why cycling [aka riding a bike] is so dangerous in North America, and one of the biggest villains in the origin story of our unsafe status quo, invest some time watching this one, by NOT JUST BIKES (aka @theurbanistagenda.com here). Then share it.

100% Pure NZ 💩 from Minister Reti. Nothing could be further from the truth. Early career researchers are not well looked after. Nor are their career prospects here good. Very early career researchers (ms and phd scholars) are highly skilled and often paid less than minimum wage. Exploited as. #NZPOL
good on MP Reuben Davidson for asking Shane Reti to designate ring-fenced funding for young scientists in NZ

Reti's answer is complete bullshit: NZ is one of the hardest countries in the WORLD to fund a postdoc. why does he think we have so few of them here????

I'd like to apologise for different periods of history for this sentence both existing and being completely accurate.
The attorney general and the FBI director, a manosphere podcaster bro, pulled into the situation room a member of Congress best known for getting kicked out of a Beetlejuice musical for drunkenly giving her date a handy, in order to pressure her about the president's child sex trafficking scandal.

[P] I rotated this a touch so that the top of the shield lines up with the green line.

Look how misaligned the "D" and final "R" in DEPARTMENT OF WAR are. The Getty watermark obscures it, but the "U" and final "A" of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are off, too.

Some Design 101-level shit.

Well, that was genuinely awful. Riding home in that storm pushed me a tad too far out of my comfort zone. I made it home safe, but the rain was so heavy my bra & underwear were wet. And the wind over the Harbour Bridge was so strong & gusty I had to reduce speed & physically muscle the bike in-lane.

My character just used her tusks to gain purchase on the riverbank to get out of a raging torrent. She even managed to pivot around the embedded tusk to get up onto the bank of what had been a dry wadi before the storm arrived.

If the barrel keeps having rotten apples put in, or apples are turning rotten once inside, at what point do you accept there’s a system problem?

Why are rotten apples put in? Why are they going rotten once in?

And why aren’t (more) politicians asking this about police?

Excellent work by Paula, as per usual ...
Honestly, the IPCA report into the police (mis)handling of the McSkimming case makes for jaw-dropping reading.

But it’s 135 pages long so I’ve read it for you.

Here’s my report on one of the most serious failures of integrity in modern policing history⬇️⬇️
The inside story of how police protected a senior cop, and prosecuted his accuser instead
For years, police leadership ignored warnings about Jevon McSkimming. The IPCA has set out the chain of failures.

Not only keeping the lights on at the milking shed during a storm - keeping the irrigators going in the heat of summer when the grid is also struggling.👍

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.
