Is it good when a major international news organization is actively soliciting stories about people leaving your country because the government has fucked it so hard?
Tell us: are you a New Zealander planning to leave the country?
We want to hear from people in New Zealand who have or are thinking of leaving

Not mentioned: the law creates a framework for surveillance of people's vehicle movements and allows the data captured to be shared with the Police and intelligence agencies. (see section 65ZF(3)). No explicit protection against capturing faces and sharing those.

Yet more laws pushing for mass #surveillance in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Aim is to grab more data on where cars are and put it in a massive database so cops can check up on you. Few controls to stop cops and their friends at other agencies from tracking ex-partners or future dates.

If the person appointed to be the Inspector-General of Police isn’t a woman, it is very hard to see how they will even begin to command the trust and confidence of the public to tackle what is clearly a deeply misogynistic culture in the police.
So when do we decide men can’t be trusted to run the police?

Just seems a little short while ago that various government politicians, and people acting as their media surrogates, were outraged and scandalized by, and poured scorn on, comments from younger women politicians for suggesting many people don't trust cops.

At what point do we publicly accept that NZ is deeply corrupt and the only reason why we don’t have a culture of direct payoffs and bribery (that we cite as the evidence for us not being corrupt) is because it’s not needed? The boys club gets what it wants through people playing their social roles.

Features the Director of the SFO, Commissioner of Police, and Secretary of the Ministry of Justice.

Bloody grim. Police in the years since seem to have treated John Dewar as a role model rather than a cautionary tale. Louise Nicholas all over again.

Just to be clear, this is what John Dewar has been up to since covering up sexual assault by 3 of his colleagues.
