Really interesting to watch the Europeans progressively cut their dependence on energy from Russia, and tech from America. Not overnight, but quarter by quarter, year by year, in a way that can be sustained for decades.
France announced today it’s phasing out Teams, Zoom, etc. to be replaced with a French/European solution called Visio. The data is hosted on Outscale. Transcripts and subtitles are also handled by French providers. The target is set on 2027 for government agencies.

I mostly just stay off Twitter altogether but after double checking that the Walter Hudson post was still up I ran across this and just had to share so the Romancelandians who bought hand warmers could hear about the PROFESSIONAL GRADE LOGISTICS.

A lot of the Male Loneliness Epidemic can be traced back to the fact that most cis dudes don’t participate in communal logistics.
I think @sarahjeong.bsky.social said it's because they devalue women's labor and a LOT of this Scary Logistics stuff comes from people who don't understand that basically all of the civic life they enjoy is created with the help of free labor, largely by women.

Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump — 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.

The disconnect between management and employee on AI usage is big. At the same time, CEOs are reporting they aren't seeing any revenue growth from AI.

How much time workers say the technology saves them on the job is vastly different from what executives report.

Props to Newsom for framing this as "caving to this US president will alienate the next"
Starmer et al need to ask, is it worth capitulating to Trump, who is famous for being a short term friend who then stabs you in the back, if it damages their countries' relationship with the next US govt
Gavin Newsom, Governor of California at Davos, does not hold back in criticising Keir Starmer and the European Union for capitulating to Trump,

"I can't take this complicity, people rolling over, I should have brought a bunch of kneepads for all the world leaders"

"Trump has a police state"

Why is there so much more interest in the tendency of young men to back Reform, rather than the tendency of young women to shun it?

Why is there so little interest in the tendency of all young people to favour Greens, and in particular why is there so little interest in young women breaking Green?

House Democrats just DEFEATED a Republican bill to let employers deny overtime pay or minimum wage to workers if they classify time worked as "job training" or "education."

6 Republicans joined us and the vote failed; GOP leaders then cancelled votes on two more anti-labor bills.

“When I speak about making our city more affordable, my vision is not limited to the homes that we live in or the child care that we’re making universal — it’s also a vision where we make it possible for working people to afford lives of joy, of art, of rest, of expression.”
