What a great idea! Navigation apps say how long you’ll have to wait for public transit, why not also include how long you’ll have to look for parking?
New research from @cathywu.bsky.social et al. confirms something I've long suspected:

Navigation apps could save their users a lot of time — and tilt travel decisions toward transit and biking — if they showed users how long it takes to find parking.
Parking-aware navigation system could prevent frustration and emissions
By minimizing the need to drive around looking for a parking spot, this technique can save drivers up to 35 minutes — and give them a realistic estimate of total travel time.

Completely agree with @evanurquhart.bsky.social here. In fact, I’d say I’m an AI hater *because* I’m taking it seriously.
I finally read this after seeing so many people discuss it and I disagree with the premise.

Believing that AI is harmful and overhyped, and AI companies should be held to unsafe product laws and laws preventing theft of intellectual property IS taking it seriously.
The left is missing out on AI
As a movement, it has largely refused to engage seriously with AI, ceding debate about a threat and opportunity to the right

I don’t want to be friends with Nazis. It’s not 2008 and you aren’t Barack Obama. I’m looking for a presidential candidate who understands the FDR/Truman approach to Nazis.
Beshear: "If somebody is looking for a Democratic version of Trump, that's not me. My goal is to bring people together, my goal is to heal the country. You can't do that if you're engaged in the same tactics he is. If that's what the American people are looking for, I'm not their guy."

When Tom Homan, Trump and other Republicans defend the masking of ICE agents, I can't help but think of Orson Welles announcing on his radio show his intention of identifying the South Carolina police officer who violently attacked and blinded the uniformed Black veteran Isaac Woodard in 1946.

I've been saying it a lot, but these deaths line up with what happened in early concentration camps during other regimes: Deaths from poor conditions, disease, or abuse. These deaths are not accidental. They are the direct result of a camp system that is designed to harm those being imprisoned.
I received notification of yet another death at an ICE facility, meaning 38 people have died in custody since Trump returned to office.

ICE is failing to ensure the health and safety of the people it is responsible for.

We need immediate oversight of this entire operation.

My guess is that the goal here is not only to punish the children for turning more people against ICE/DHS, but also to make news outlets think twice about reporting on kids' suffering at the hands of ICE/DHS, out of concern that doing so might lead to retaliation against the kids.

"free/cheap/non-toxic youth sports" feels like one of those skeleton keys that would have knock-on effects accidentally fix 100 unrelated things about America

or, you know, even if it didn't, at least a bunch of kids would be able to have fun playing sports

this is why the whole “oh, suffering creates great art” thing is bullshit

you know what’s conducive to art? a roof over your head and food on the table

you know what isn’t? stressing out over where the fuck the rent money is going to come from
I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.
I’m constantly astounded at the sheer level of artistic production coming out of Iceland. Novels, movies, music. Amazing.

In the concentration camp universe, this is what's known as a filtration camp. A government preemptively takes a whole class of people to interrogate and detain extrajudicially in order to inflict duress on them while arbitrarily assessing their (supposed) culpability.
This is a truly horrifying memo. It says that the policy of the US government will now be to proactively seek out and arrest likely tens of thousands of refugees who entered legally under Biden and subject them to detention, where they will be interrogated about their status.

I can love you as a candidate, but the second you’re in office you are required to prove yourself all over again, now as an actual policymaker.
I hope New Yorkers will challenge Mamdani about this. Too often, people feel they need to be absolutely for or against a politician — ignoring their missteps or throwing them out with the bathwater. You can like and/or believe in someone and still challenge them to deliver on their promises.

Laughing at journalists who say if Bluesky was nicer to them there’d be more journalists here like…you don’t know your audience AT ALL.

Trying to shame Bluesky into behaving the way you personally want is like trying to keep a cat off a counter.

That cat is gonna be on the counter EVEN MORE now.

the overseer of project 2025 is telling you out loud that every inch you cede on trans rights is part of the plan to create a white christian fascist state
Kevin Roberts, President of The Heritage Foundation, claims that evidence suggests a correlation between undergoing Trans Medical Care and acts of violence.

He states Heritage's public policy solution is to ban it for all ages and they're willing to work towards this goal on an incremental basis.
