Seattle's Mamdani is winning by an absurdly small margin over our incumbent mayor, who once pulled a gun on a pregnant woman in a parking lot.

The second best argument for M4A, and one that would motivate at least as many voters as the first, is not ever having to think about what insurance you have, pick a plan, deal with providers, or spend any time on that shit
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

I only worked at Sierra Club for ~3 years ('19-'21) and agree with @billcorcoran.bsky.social: the problem wasn't "social justice," as this NYT article claims, but rather a question of how to build a justice-minded org in a way that was mindful of a base of supporters who felt left out of the loop
So, this Sierra Club article...
I worked there for 27 years and was a volunteer before that for a while.
Both for the long-term effectiveness of the environmental movement and as a simple (but complex) matter of justice, the organization needed change.

YES! @gbbranstetter.bsky.social hits the nail on the head
Great @gbbranstetter.bsky.social read on how throwing trans people under the bus is not a winning political strategy and in fact the opposite is true. Democrats have an opportunity here to not be craven cowards succumbing to transphobic messaging.
Democrats Can’t Blame Trans People for Their Own Failures
Despite the attempts by so many in the party's establishment to paint trans rights as a toxic issue, transphobia was soundly rejected across the country this week.

Because I wasn’t ready for you, you’re way too thick, and now I’m not going anywhere for at least two days.
Your assignment for this morning, should you choose to accept it, is to finish the following pickup line: “Are you the first major snowfall in a Chicago winter? Because…”
Because you’re predicting 6-7 inches but I expect it to be more like 1-2

Never pass up an opportunity to play The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
50 years ago today, Nov. 10, 1975, the Edmund Fitzgerald sank beneath the waves of Lake Superior during a massive storm.
The sinking took the lives of all 29 men on the ship, and became immortalized in Gordon Lightfoot's song.
This is the story of this terrible tragedy.

I heard from a bunch of federal employees last night and this morning. They aren't happy.
"I would rather be an actual pawn. At least pawn sacrifices are calculated and achieve something. All this for a fucking meaningless vote."

To be perfectly clear, the right is absolutely still coming for marriage equality in the long term, but it looks like they have bigger fish* to fry in the short term.
*immigrants, trans people, public school students with disabilities, etc…so many fish to fry before they return to marriage equality

They caved in March so they could get a better deal now. They’re caving now so they can get a better deal in some indeterminate future. The better deal is always just beyond their reach, but continuing to cave will get them there. And if you don’t agree with that, you don’t understand Politics,

Since the Democrats worked extra hard to hide who actually supported this, I think the No Kings/Resistance position should be to primary every Democrat unless they publicly call for Schumer's ouster this week

Trump and Republicans refuse to fight for American families, but I refuse to give up on them.
I simply cannot vote to do nothing to help protect them from Trump’s vindictive efforts in exchange for a vague promise from the least trustworthy Republican party in our nation’s history.

I’ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.
It is a practice in conflict with the principles of transparency & accountability that are central to the concept of democracy.
