We are nearly approaching the 10-year anniversary of the Colangelo family Thanksgiving mystery of trying to figure out who ate the bag of gourmet dog treats thinking they were cookies and stashed the wrapper under the couch once they realized their mistake.

My aunt who famously can’t cook tried to make a pumpkin pie. She didn’t know what cloves were, so she put garlic cloves in it. Whole.

I heard there was a Cohen song,

And all the Christians got it wrong,

But you don’t really get the meaning do ya?

‘Cause you see its about getting laid,

It’s sex, and love, and Jewish faith,

But all the gentiles heard was “hallelujah!”

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

It is, alas, too late for me. But you can save yourselves
listen to me. listen to me right now. if you don't know what this tweet means, just close your device. don't look anything up. go for a walk. return in a week. if you don't listen to me, your life will be ruined and i can't be held accountable

I would only add that they insist it be like action instead of animated because they're _adults_ and cartoons, like Trix, are for kids.
Disney's "live action" cartoons seem less like movies than pageants. Audiences already know the words, don't care about the acting or production quality. They just want to see this thing they already know, exactly the same as last time, like a catechism. They want something they can sing along with.

The availability of cheap, ready to eat foods is a Good Thing™ and I will die on this hill.
The problems presented by 'ultra processed foods' are problems that are beyond the scale of individual consumer choices and framing the consumption of UPFs as a personal moral failing is a distraction.

The evidence that ultra-processed foods are bad for us is piling up. But efforts to reduce their role in our diets face a big hurdle: experts can't agree on what they are and which to target.
