This is full of mildly astonishing revelations about right-wing influence at the BBC, but foremost among them is the fact that he was advised that writing for the New Statesman was effectively unacceptable but doing so for the Spectator was fine - indeed, advisable. I am flabbergasted.
The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.

New piece from me.

As we are moving house soon, to a house without an attic, I thought I should take a look in our attic to see how much stuff we have.

I've now had to have a lie down.

there is a phenomenon, that I think a lot of people might not be aware of, of terfs descending on someone who has just been through a trauma and love bombing the shit out of them. I watched a friend go from ally to terf almost overnight after her house got burgled due to this.
Esther continually deadnamed Brianna during the call and honestly if you didn't already know what happened, you would have assumed suicide. There was no focus on external dangers or how we could combat them. The focus was purely about the dangers of how 'obsessed with social media' she was.

1. Last month, a team led by Professor James Hansen published a new study explaining why global warming has accelerated.

These are some of the shocking points that stood out for me. A 🧵

Authors are constantly telling people how they made it! It's just that it takes a LOT of hard work and *patience* but people like this didn't wanna hear that advice. They think there's some kind of secret code or magic words that'll let you skip all that.
gosh, shut up

Honestly terrifying that the BBC can run an unhinged story about lesbians being forced to have sex with trans women, with one of the main sources being a rapist who responded to the story's publication by calling for trans people to all be hung, and the Official Consensus is they are too pro-trans

TERFs are "feminist" in the same way the Nazis were "socialist": As a cover for stupid rubes.

And gender criticals in general have fascist personality traits: Petty middle-class revanchism, obsession with hierarchy & order, seeing "others" not as indviduals but projections of their grievances etc.

Once every 20 years or so, the director-general of the BBC is forced to resign for being insufficiently rightwing. Alastair Milne in 1987. Greg Dyke in 2004. Tim Davie in 2025. The great irony is that the BBC was in all cases profoundly biased towards established power. But just not biased enough …
