EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD EXCEPT ME is out today!

www.amazon.com/dp/B0DMNHMKRJ/

This is book two of the DARK LORD DAVI duology, the thrilling conclusion!
Thinking about this and the reason BSG (and other shows, like LOST) are worse than GoT ending-wise is they are what I tend to describe as "ontological mysteries". (That is, the driving interest is a mystery in the sense of "WTF is going on?" rather than "Whodunnit?")
Also for me the canonical Disappointing Ending That Ruins The Show is not GoT but ****ing Battlestar Galactica (the new one)

Ok so it's not literally the BEST ending but the end of Sledge Hammer season one will never not be funny.

(They didn't think they'd get renewed. And then they did!)

All book sequels should have recaps.
All of them
Every single one.
It's an accessibility feature.
People are more likely to buy the books as they're released.
Recaps in all sequels!!
This place needs some Innocuous Discourse pronto. Quote this with a take that’s not political or aggressive

For those considering using AI/LLMs for their books or book covers. I was just about to mark a book as one I was interested in reading as part of a judging allotment, then didn't due to the use of AI in its cover. You're genuinely missing out on readers (& reviews) when you use this shite

"What is the Matrix?"
"No one can be told what the Matrix is...but now that it's here, we all have to accept that it's here to stay and we might as well start integrating it into our lives."
"But it's shitty!"
"Even so, the economy is depending on it."

"All right," said the hacker. "I'm in."

"You hacked the Gibson?"

"No. God no. But I got my deck onto the hotel wifi."
This kills me. The evil technology in Neuromancer and Snow Crash basically, like, worked? It wasn't like "what are the implications of the Metaverse for human society?! And also somehow the Metaverse completely sucks shit but now I have to go there to pay my pizza delivery bill?!"

It's hard to express how stupid this is.

Listen. When a common word like "office" is generally accepted to refer specifically to your software, you have officially Won at Branding. Why on EARTH would you throw that away?

You'd have to make up a country called "Anamapama" and make the drug some kind of glowy sci-fi substance and the instigators would have to be a shadowy made-up intelligence agency that you could hand-wave away when necessary

For those published this year, I have to mention Everybody Wants to Rule the World Except Me by @djangowexler.bsky.social. #1 might have been my favorite book of 2024. This duology is very worth it if you like snarky fantasy. bookshop.org/p/books/ever...

Unscientific survey, don't check replies before answering:

If I say to you, "I'm at loose ends today," what do you understand me to mean?

Optional: where did you grow up? Trying to figure out if there's a regional variation.

Yeah the reason I do it is there's two audiences. The people reading it at release (i.e. 1+ years apart) really need the recap. The people the whole series at once can easily skip it!
Seriously please please please put recaps at the beginning of your books, I beg of you it is SO useful.

I'm had some series I DON'T finish because book N+1 picks up IMMEDIATELY after book N and I'm like "Yo that was like 3 years ago I have no idea."
I am doing this in every book these days. It's just the best option.

I wish every book in a series (especially sff) had a recap at the beginning! Thanks @djangowexler.bsky.social
