you could probably have a pretty effective campaign of writing letters to the family members of ICE agents letting them know those agents are hated by people in the community for sending people to concentration camps

a one-two punch of "I know where you live" (public info) and "your family knows"

If you asked me to guess what was on the B-side of Jingle Bell Rock, i would not have been able to come up with Captain Santa Claus (and His Reindeer Space Patrol)

but it kinda feels like we *should* be able to guess that, right?

STEM and humanities are companions and fellow travelers. The MBAs are the enemy.
here's a hot for Bluesky take: a lot of tech-criticism is so bad and focused on a kind of stupid imagined STEM-humanities culture war that some companies have been able to build whole brands around being "evil tech bros 😈" making supervillain promises despite their shit being vaporware

After giving it some time, i do think i prefer this overall. I wish i could see activity only on _older_ posts, but i'm okay with the tradeoff.

I might reenable "likes of your reposts" and/or "reposts of your reposts" though, just because i don't notice people's replies to those otherwise

People who are comfortable with C should be perfect targets for LLMs, because they're already used to having to either give up on software quality OR do an enormous amount of fiddly extra-programming work!

this is an extremely long thread to demonstrate what I think was obviously true: @indexers.bsky.social should not have published that awful excuse for an LLM paper as it is.

If they want a rebuttal paper, I can finish this work and give it a shot, but I suspect they don't! Prove me wrong, etc.

This is an important thing to keep in mind in general
Doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Just saying cropped screenshots with no links are sometimes cropped with no links for a reason.

It's always a good time to listen to Eldermourne (Naddpod campaign 2), they better go back to those characters or at least that world again

And now i think it's time to start my first relisten of campaign 3. Duck Team fucking sucks (laudatory)

the modern history of the criminal legal system makes it very clear that "just make this thing illegal" or "just give the feds jurisdiction over it" does not accomplish very much.

imagine an unholy conglomeration of General Electric, General Dynamics, General Motors, General Atomics, General Mills, and General Tire, with this mascot:

Wins like today are important in the fight against an authoritarian regime. They expose the state. They remind people that they should stand up and fight back. They inject some faith back into institutions. They push back against the zero sum thinking that can doom resistance.

it's kinda weird that all those rotary cannons are *still* associated with General Electric even though they sold GE Armament Systems in 1993 (to Martin Marietta, at the time)

i feel like there must be a lot of people who don't know that General Dynamics and General Electric are unrelated companies

I read Vernor Vinge's Zones of Thought books in my early 20s, and ever since then, i've been gently steering toward a career as a "programmer-archaeologist"

I think i'm getting there; some of my work in my current job could probably be accurately described as software archaeology
for me the biggest downside of the AI bubble is that it's going to leave the software world totally trashed with not just a bunch of garbage code but also a bunch of garbage architecture that I'll have to painstakingly explain to stakeholders over and over again to avoid

Woke 2.0. It has to win, and it has to work, and it has to make people relatively happy, and it has to put guardrails in that can outlast it.

And people think it'll be a challenge!

The Left is doomed to collapse into the fascist abyss unless we realise that the vanguard of the working class right now are the proletarianised tech and pink-collar work forces. Workers on the way UP are revolutionary. Workers seeking rent from a stagnant system are reactionary.

The number of people who produce art, in the broadest sense of the word is a fraction of the number of people who could produce art. Actually, it's worse than hat. Slice art into the many mediums and genres. The number of people who could do that kind of art compared to who does is unbelievably tiny
