All my homies hate John Roberts.

Nobody Asked Me, But the reason I think mixing mutual aid so called and political campaigns is bad is because US political parties are so weak it will become a corrupt, personalist tool if it catches on.

WONTFIX
This has everything: malleabile encryption, complex packets, memory safety, unsafe terminal UI, wontfix.

Incredible.

Plaintext exfiltration if you just click a link.

I can’t be convinced gpg can be used safely.

certified gpg moment
At the gpg.fail talk and omg #39c3

You can just put a \0 in the Hash: header and then newlines and inject text in a cleartext message.

Won’t even blame PGP here. C is unsafe at any speed.

gpg has not fixed it yet.

this suit is absurd but it's even wilder in the context that you can safely publish "matt taibbi bragged about raping underaged russian teenagers" and have zero fear of being sued

perks of being outside one of the coastal megalopolises: you are usually never more than 2.5 hours away from super remote as defined here
I think people today don't understand just how dramatically the night sky has changed - it looked like it does in super remote areas *everywhere* before the invention of electric lighting, and light pollution that obscures the sky has gotten dramatically worse in the last 25 years.
If you ever have the experience of seeing a night sky out in the deep countryside you can understand this; it really is a fundamentally different experience, and I can't imagine it not being formative to people.

Getting rich in trump's america:

1. Steal a shitload of money

2. Kick some of it to kushner

3. Trump pardon

Seems bad,ngl
We are getting to the point where white collar criminals are thinking, "why take the plea deal my high-priced lawyer negotiated when I can just bribe the President and skip jail altogether?"

hear me out: imperial boomerang, but good
I remember the phrase "they can't be allowed to melt back into society" re: the de-Baathification of Iraq after the war there. Like everything about that experience, the attempt was cynical, stupid, and botched. But there really should be a plan about what we do with guys like these in the future.
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

addendum to thread: if you have an employer that offers group civil litigation defense, TAKE IT
Reposting out of a response thread to remind US people: if you make people mad on the internet, it is a VERY worthwhile investment to add an umbrella policy to your homeowners' or renters' insurance. I recommend a $2m per incident minimum; we increased ours to $5m recently just in case.
This is part of why I *strongly* recommend anyone who makes assholes on the internet mad a lot should have a umbrella liability policy added to their homeowners' or renters' insurance, with a minimum coverage of $2m per incident, although we just increased ours to $5m just in case.

the least shocking thing in the epstein files that wont get enough attention. police regularly arrest and charge victims to coerce them into participating, often jailing them in conditions that are worse.
jesus the Palm Beach Police really sought arrest warrants against underage Epstein victims for coming forward and cooperating, and (purported) admitting to crimes, and it caused the victims to become uncooperative with the federal investigation

UPDATE: We may see the first time English is displaced as the most popular language among Bluesky posters as soon as Americans head to sleep tonight.

Japanese users were close to achieving that feat at 7 am Eastern Time, and their activity is increasing at an exponential pace. This is remarkable.
