A knock-on effect of Trump suddenly looking weak is people feel emboldened to push back against his flunkies too. Turns out the media knows exactly how to do this when they want to
KARL: The president claims that Thanksgiving costs are down 25%. Does he know that's not true?

HASSETT: Well if you look at Walmart--

KARL: Wait a minute. I've gotta stop you. The Walmart package this year contains much less than the one last year. That's why the price is less.

Area landlord dresses up muscling out the competition as noble stewardship of the common good, news at 11.

Proprietors who are in the 'very well to do' to 'just barely rich' range are the fucking worst. They see themselves as oppressed and kicking down as their natural right.
I am hearing reports that the OP is a landlord.

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.

This is the reason why incarceration must be understood as just one possible criminal penalty on a sliding scale of severity.

More severe than fines or community service or house arrest or probation.

Less severe than the death penalty

You want *harsher* punishments. Not to prevent harm.
"What about [form of abuse that is mostly de facto decriminalised right now anyway]?"

I didn't say abolish bullets, did I?

This is true also & Trump spending the last decade pumping utter poison into our national culture certainly has had the effect of corroding our public spheres and making lots of randos online think its not just fine but good to say some of the more vile & violent shit imaginable to total strangers
This is also a product of Donald Trump tbh

Bro its 2025 and trump is president, none of us have any idea what is going to happen next week and we sure as shit dont have to listen to this Jonathan dumbfuck trying to claim he can see the future.
J-MART, on Newsom:

“.. Ask yourself: How many other potential candidates .. can transcend the political-pop culture divide ..?

“.. there may not be a modern political figure who was simultaneously so well-positioned to be his party’s nominee ..”

Political party and net worth don’t matter—there should be no protecting ANY of the powerful and privileged from facing accountability for abuse and misbehavior.

There’s only one right answer on the Epstein Files: transparency for the public and justice for the victims.

Trans person: *flees the discriminatory policies of a red state and moves to a blue state because it has robust civil rights and legal protections*

That same trans person, posting on bluesky "fuck the democrats! they only give us table scraps! Both sides are the same! Screw your blue maga!"

This is the immediate conclusion I come to for anyone I see luigi-posting.

Some people genuinely abhor violence, and that includes state violence.

These tend to be decent people.

Other people love violence, their violence, the 'correct' violence.

They are not to be trusted.
you do get the idea that one of the reasons these people are so against the notions of a justice system is that it stops them from performing the violence they so desperately crave

I'm seeing people wonder why ICE is going after Charlotte.

ICE has been at war with Charlotte's sheriff ever since he won in 2018.

We'd covered this at Bolts back in the day; this quote is from that sheriff:
“When the 8 African American sheriffs took over the largest counties in North Carolina, it became a threat to the good ol’ boy system,” says the sheriff of Charlotte. These new sheriffs broke ties with ICE.

But GOP lawmakers cracked down this week, overbidding the governor’s veto to adopt this law:
North Carolina GOP Is Cracking Down on the Black Sheriffs Who Stood Up to ICE
Boosted by new supermajorities, Republicans are closing in on legislation to mandate more collaboration with ICE and preempt local policies hard-won by immigrants’ rights advocates.

This is just about the worst possible way to say "I am sorry but we still need to enforce TOS"
First I’m sorry that you had such tragic experiences. That’s horrific.

1) if a person on the news, such as a female journalist talks about a topic, does she deserve threats in a joking way?
2) would you believe those acceptable to receive on your account?

Charlotte is turning into Chicago in the course of a day. My husband went to work earlier this afternoon and was informed Hispanic staff were sent home due to an ICE raid around the block in which all the Hispanic employees were rounded up and arrested. Fuck ICE.
A Charlotte pastor said Border Patrol came into his church and made an arrest in front of children. They cried “a lot,” he said.

“We are trying to clean the property. We didn’t know this is gonna happen.”

The U.S. bishops defended migrant families. Tom Homan snapped. Nan Hayworth called Pope Leo a “tool of our enemies.” Tim Burchett accused the church of getting rich off of sex trafficking.

Matt Walsh, Lara Logan, and the rest joined in. This is what MAGA anti-Catholicism looks like.
“Pope Leo Is a Tool of Our Enemies”: Homan Leads MAGA Attacks as Hayworth, Others Pile On
It’s the latest MAGA attack on Pope Leo’s pro-immigrant stance. Disgraced border chief Tom Homan — caught taking a $50,000 bribe in a Cava takeout bag — led the charge against Leo and the bishops.

Whether it's Labour implementing the Beveridge Report and Keynesian economics or Zohran doing Actually Existing Abundance, all great progress in the free world comes from socialists being elected and following liberal ideas.
Genuinely hilarious that the only way we’re going to get actual functional YIMBY housing policy in our large cities is through Red Plenty Socialists and not the Abundance guys lol

I really do like the analogy because the grunts in the army of the Potomac from 1861-1863 had to grind it out under incompetent leadership until the union found Grant, and that kinda feels like what’s going on with the dem party rn…
Listening to the Unclear and Present Danger podcast with @jamellebouie.net , and he made a striking analogy: the Trump administration sorta resembles the Confederacy trying to win everything in the first 24 months...
