When I post things related to religion/theology with no incendiary political angle, there's typically no real response on here. When there's a political connection? Tons of reposts/replies show up. The incentives on here are heavily tilted in favor of politics posting, unfortunately.
I'd be happy with big non politics accounts.

It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

Is there a musical with a bigger delta between "quality of songs" and "quality of characters/plot" than RENT

because musically so many of the songs fucking slap but then like

virtually all of the characters are just terrible, terrible people

The thing to like about jensen huang is that he was like a normal CEO 4 years ago and is now in the process of going insane
I have a hard time listening to Jensen Huang because he's such a buzzwordy hype merchant. Also because he makes choices like "whatever the hell this jacket is up to".

If you're an officer and you need a JAG opinion to determine whether being ordered to engage in armed force in Greenland is a blatantly illegal order, your oath became meaningless years ago.
TAPPER: Can you rule out the US is going to take Greenland by force?

MILLER: Greenland should be part of the US. By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? The US is the power of NATO

T: So force is on the table?

M: Nobody is gonna fight the US militarily over future of Greenland

I still can't believe that we are fucking nearly a decade into this shit and to my knowledge zero reporters have ever pressed Trump on 1) why does he think asylum seekers come from insane asylums 2) why does he think stealth planes are literally invisible
January 6, 2026 at 12:12 AM
4) Trump still thinks "asylum seekers" come from mental asylums
This article would be significantly improved by providing the context that (1) Trump is a notorious liar; (2) the 18-month claim here is absurd; and (3) the legal authority for the U.S. government to subsidize such an effort — what is it?

Otherwise they are just misleading the public.
👀 #AmericaFirst

"U.S. may subsidize an effort by oil companies to rebuild the country's energy infrastructure — a project he said could take less than 18 months."

Trump is looking to spend our tax dollars to boost up big oil's "infrastructure" in Venezuela.

Again, one reason Trump says & does whatever he wants is that everyone has simply decided Nothing Matters & he is One Very Special Boy, in ways that we never tolerated for anyone, even the Republicans Ronald Reagan & George W. Bush at their most popular.
One reason Trump says & does whatever he wants is because every societal institution, including the media, has completely normalized & internalized the idea that the laws, the Constitution, & the international treaties we have signed & ratified simply don’t apply to this one guy. It’s maddening.

We didn't need to do this. And we would not have done it for any Democrat ever, & not a single Republican prior to this One Special Boy. It's maddening.
“Lebensraum: is it prudent fiscal policy?”

🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Again, one thing I was completely wrong about is that I believed there was a baseline level of professional pride & integrity below which supposedly serious journalists would not sink in the face of the far right authoritarianism.

If the DEA had killed 80 innocent Americans in the course of apprehending one drug dealer, there would be riots. But we are so ghoulishly indifferent to the lives and humanity of people abroad that it's barely even part of the conversation.
A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

come on, george, everyone knows that Trump always honors his agreemepffftt I can't even keep that going
If you're management and sign some sort of agreement that indemnifies you against all future costs, sure you take that. But if there is any wiggle room at all that could see a future administration come claw back what you're being paid...nerp nope no sir no THANK you.

Yes. You basically need to hand the entire capex bill to the USG. If you give XOM and CVX a free call on that going well (it won't) they'll take it.

But also: they are not going to be able to spin up meaningful prod in the next year or two; it's a very short clock.
as previously discussed downthread from the patient zero discussion that ended with sky off of here, the amount of subsidy to make this profitable (and thus palatable to any US company) is hilariously large

I actually think they view is as *more legitimate*, which is more of a problem. Groyphers get brushed off, they get offended by anthro grad students because they regard that as 'real' criticism
i agree with all of this, my concern is many centrist types don't view criticism from their left as legitimate

they get normal pushback on here, fall down crying, & go back to twitter to be yelled at by nazis (who are allowed to have opinions)
here's the last posting about posting thing I'll say: I want people to my right politically on here for the same reason that I want either the GOP to improve or some other sane Conservative Party to arise: these people will have power. I want them to not be insane. X is making them insane.

In AD 64 the Roman emperor Nero ordered the construction of a vast palace complex, the Domus Aurea. It was finished just 4 years later and represented such an indulgence of luxury and hedonism that it embarrassed even the emperors. After Nero's death it was torn down.

I think about that sometimes.

These numbers are very, very clearly bullshit: just go to any normal pub and ask people how often they use X (if they use it at all)

Or, you know, anyone who does social media comms where their mass reach is.

The answer is that the politicial sphere is addicted. No more, no less
If there is an argument then this is the argument. But lol I can’t find where this obviously false stat is coming from. And if the government does believe more than half the families in the UK are using it as their primary news source then woah maybe time to up the scrutiny of it!

i feel like "jewish consigliere to nazis" is basically a description of greenwald's entire career
Glenn Greenwald says Nick Fuentes' authenticity makes it easy for critics to "demonize and attack you by taking these quotes that can sound not just very racist, but very almost Nazi-like and kind of an extermination rhetoric." Um, yea. People who use Nazi-like rhetoric tend to get labeled a Nazi.
