Justice KBJ is a brilliant strategist. She is working the rules to compel timely review of the stay in the SNAP case by both the Circuit Court and by the Supreme Court. This is why knowing which SCOTUS justice has supervision of the Circuit you file in is essential.

BREAKING: First Circuit denies DOJ's request for an administrative stay of the SNAP benefits TRO out of Rhode Island.

DOJ's stay request remains pending, and the panel is working on a ruling on that.

In a November 6 order, the district court granted the motion to enforce its October 31 order, concluding that the government had failed to either fully fund SNAP for November or to resolve administrative and clerical burdens such that partial payments would be made. It therefore directed the government "to make full SNAP payments ... by utilizing available Section 32 funds in combination with the contingency funds." In the same November 6 order, the district court issued a second temporary restraining order concluding that the government's decision not to use Section 32 funds to issue full SNAP benefits in November was arbitrary and capricious and similarly directing the government to make full payments of SNAP benefits by November 7, including by using the Section 32 fund.
The government filed a notice of appeal and has moved to stay pending appeal the district court's November 6 orders. The government requests a stay on the merits and an administrative stay. We note that in its stay briefing to us, the government has not disputed that it may under 7 U.S.C. § 2257 use the Section 32 fund to cover the provision of SNAP benefits for the month of November. Because the November 6 orders provide the same relief, the government would need to establish that it is entitled to a stay of both orders in order to receive the relief that it requests from being required to make full SNAP payments by utilizing available Section 32 funds in combination with the contingency funds.
The request for an administrative stay is denied. The government's motion for a stay pending appeal remains pending, and we intend to issue a decision on that motion as quickly as possible.

I think it’s good and important to spread the word about companies that are doing bad things and offer people alternatives to those companies that aren’t evil. I also think shouting “cancel that!” “Stop using that!” “Why are you still on that!” isn’t a great way to help ease people’s transitions.

September 24, 2025 (WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, led Committee Democrats in sending letters to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel demanding documents and communications related to Trump administration “Border Czar” Tom Homan and the Federal investigation into him. Recently, it was reported that he allegedly accepted cash bribes in exchange for promises to deliver government contracts. This investigation – like many into those who are favorably connected to the President – was closed by the Trump administration. The American people have a right to know DHS and FBI’s role in this matter.

Specifically, the Committee requests from DHS:

Any communications between DHS and the DOJ or the FBI regarding the

investigation.

Any communications between or among DHS personnel regarding the

investigation.

Any ethics opinions or guidance provided to DHS by DOJ or the FBI regarding Homan’s

role as Border Czar while under investigation.

Any reviews conducted by DHS to assess the accuracy of Homan’s financial

disclosure.

All communications between Homan and any DHS personnel responsible for

contracting.

All border security or immigration enforcement-related contracts awarded since January 20 using sole source justification.

The Committee also requests from the FBI:

All documents and communications related to the investigation, including the decision to close it.

All audio and video recordings, photographs, and notes or memoranda related to the September 20, 2024, meeting between undercover FBI agents and Tom Homan.

A list of any agents, broken out by title, assigned field office, race, and gender, that have been terminated, forced to retire, or reassigned as a result of working on …

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.
