Grading and googling hallucinated citations, as one does nowadays, and now that LLMs have been around for a while, I've discovered new horrors: hallucinated journals are now appearing in Google Scholar with dozens of citations bc so many people are citing these fake things

Frantically texting my colleagues and friends at Brown to make sure they aren’t the victims of yet another school shooting. They and their lab members are safe. I yearn for the day enough people in America love thy neighbor more than guns and we stop this cycle. Not sure I’ll see it in my lifetime.

Head Start is a 60-year-old US Department of Health and Human Services program that, among other things, creates inclusive and accessible classrooms for children with disabilities. But those applying for funding were told by the Trump regime to avoid the words "inclusion" and "disability." 🤡

A little pet peeve. It’s not exactly that tropical rainforests have “gone from being allies in the fight against climate breakdown to being part of the problem.” Forests lose carbon when people cut them (or via fire) and gain carbon when trees grow. It’s that the losing is outweighing the gaining.

If a politician:

-Has never cared at all about whales before;

-Is in the pocket of big oil, an industry which has a financial incentive to oppose alternative energy;

and

-is a well-documented liar,

You don't have to take their "we have to stop offshore wind to save whales" claims seriously.

I think part of the issue is SSA is poorly defined. SSA absolutely exists in the USA & Europe now, but not formally recognized and thus not supported equitably. Definitely need more research to show its importance in places the want to scale. Notably, many communities want SSA not large = tension.

Ever notice small scale #aquaculture (SSA) doesn't seem to get much attention? Us too. We ran a semi-quant synthesis of the the literature and found it is poorly defined, missing from the US & Europe, & underrepresented in marine systems (e.g., oysters) dx.doi.org/10.1111/raq....
