Local cops trying to pretend they're opposed to the ICE "Bad Cops" is a similar dynamic. Every asshole loves to point to some other, even bigger asshole. "See, our normal, highly professional, data-driven racist state violence is fine, actually."
My comment on the "who is more racist" discourse is that Northern proponents of mass policing and incarceration pointed to openly racist caricatures of Southern sheriffs to avoid re-examining policing and jail in general.

Just want to emphasize that community watch groups and mutual aid funds are critical to 1 and 2. Massachusetts has not been hit nearly as hard as the other cities, but our mutal aid funds are really struggling for money. If you don't feel comfortable hitting the streets, donations definitely help.
i think the synthesis so far of the LA/DC/Chicago experiences is:
1) vulnerable people should hide and wait it out to whatever extent they can
2) other people should help them do that, financially and otherwise
3) other people should also get loud
4) not violent though
