The United Center is one of many big buildings that hasn't been reporting their energy use and emissions, and the city hasn't given them any of the fines written in the law!

Let's make sure that's fixed, and get more buildings reporting their energy use 💪🏻
Chicago's largest buildings are breaking emissions laws, costing the city nearly $35 million in uncollected fines! Buildings over 50,000 sqft are required to report their emissions, but thousands haven't, and have faced none of the penalties.

While a 50 year mortgage might lower monthly payments, it drastically increases total interest and slows equity growth. Stimulating demand without fixing supply would likely raise prices. The core issue in the housing market isn't financing; it's the lack of supply.

New post from @zyudhishthu.bsky.social

Broad themes:
1. Families live in downtown Chicago!

2. Households with children continue to move to, or households without children start their families in, downtown Chicago

3. The number of children in downtown Chicago has grown a lot
Chicago's downtown family boom
And what it can tell us about building family-friendly cities

New way to support housing has popped up: becoming an “interested party” for ZBA applications.

919 W Sheridan is a project to convert a 3-flat to have 12 units, and a property owner who lives within the eligible distance submitted an “interested party registration” in support of the project.

When I heard that the local Chamber of Commerce was not on the side of the naysayers I knew they were fucked. The last argument point they had was "bbbbbut the businesses!" and thankfully the local Chamber was like "this is fucking awesome for businesses"

Elect people who will reduce the housing shortage
Rents in Chicago are growing faster than the country’s average and the inventory of housing for sale in Chicagoland is at an 11-year low…

This is a great account to follow (yeah, I’m biased) if you want to see where new development is happening in Chicago
In Kenwood, two vacant lots two blocks apart are getting new three-flats, by the same developer and designer pair. Learn more about one of them 🔥 buff.ly/fVSIgJj

“Chicago is where I was born and raised. And honestly, biking just makes me feel at peace. I'm usually not the most calm person - when I'm biking though, my mind is centered. I can pay attention to my surroundings. It's kind of like a meditation for me.” 🧵

It's time for all good citizens to pick up a snow shovel and clear space around their nearest bus stops because both municipalities and private landowners don't #PlowTheSidewalks. Indeed, they sometimes dump snow in bus stop areas. Query: Is municipal failure to clear bus stops an #ADA issue?

I don’t think Democrats should reopen the government so long as Donald Trump is:

- Trying to starve millions of Americans
- Invading U.S. cities
- Disappearing people
- Taking a hatchet to public health
- Gutting environmental regulations
- Not funding foreign aid
- Committing war crimes

Hey @duckworth.senate.gov @durbin.senate.gov @quigley.house.gov don’t give up now. Don’t give into a bully, there’s nothing prudent about giving up your values.

Last week, people across the country voted for the @democrats.org to take on Trump. If you give in now, you are spitting in their face.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Chicagoans never stop. I was just watching a live stream of a press conference held by community members in front of FBI headquarters. In the rain in the dark. Umbrellas at hand they are calling for the release of 6 people taken by ICE, 3 also arrested by CPD. They never stop fighting.

this is a weekly phenomenon in Chicago. 🧵
Thousands of dollars have been raised for a Chicago doctor who remains in critical condition after a driver struck him as he biked home last week near the Illinois Medical District.
