the relation of parent to child is one of stewardship, not ownership. but #adoption is designed to confer legal parenthood through the issuing of false birth records, which give the adopters permanent ownership of the adoptee's identity. why can't adult adoptees legally emancipate themselves?

Can anyone point me to a study or other data showing that the majority of relinquishing parents *don’t* want to be anonymous? It’s needed for lobbying.
I can look through the citations in Relinquished by @gretchensisson.bsky.social but I’m hoping someone has quicker access to the info.

conservatives try this messaging again & again. they say: people covered by a risk-pooling system who haven't received a payout from it aren't really "using the system." so, if you're paying into a system you aren't "using," you're a chump. an even worse chump if you're paying for other non-users.
My wife and I pay for life insurance even though we have never died. I pay for fire insurance even though my house has never burned down. That's not because we want to throw money at insurance companies. It's because THAT'S HOW INSURANCE WORKS.

Arianna Sofia Veraza and her parents were driving to Sam's Club for milk, eggs and diapers yesterday when they heard helicopters and horns blaring yesterday. They had turned around to leave when a federal agent pepper-sprayed them through a car window.

since #adoption reorders only the legal and social *conventions* governing kinship relationships and statuses, but cannot reorder the historical facts (but only conceal them), adopted people cannot escape being subject to *penalties* if they exercise their choice to flout those conventions.
there is no reason why i should feel obligated to call my mother my “birth mother” or “biological mother,” any more than she should need correction when she refers to me—as she always has—as her son rather than as her “birth son.” 🥚

And regardless of the tactical situations, this reads like surrender. It tells people that Senate dem leadership thinks the stakes aren’t as in fact as high as you would have them believe.
We can debate whether that is true or not, but the narrative is set. Dems are not in array.
