Your regular reminder that since August of last year, Mr. Abrego has agreed to be deported to Costa Rica, but the Trump admin refuses to do so because they want to instead punish him by sending him to an African country that will most likely detain and then deport him to El Salvador for the admin.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement cannot re-detain Kilmar Abrego Garcia because a 90-day detention period has expired and the government has no viable plan for deporting him, a federal judge ruled. https://cnn.it/4kHhwqR

One of my firm beliefs about ICE's $79B budget is that the organization is so corrupt it'll grift and graft it's way through that pile of dough so fast it'll make heads spin.

I’m not gonna get into it but I’m insanely annoyed by that semi viral academic should read books and talk about it post because what the fuck do you think has been going on in humanities - actual humanities - classrooms? We read books.

Frame: the left is hurting itself by not engaging with the god machines

Negation: but this technology doesn't do the things you claim

kirby: the people writing these stories get funding to support narratives of power and inevitability, and that's what we should be scrutinizing
Instead of "the left isn't paying enough attention to these machine gods" they're claiming to build, perhaps we should write an article about how effective altruists brand themselves "left", ask who is writing these articles, and trace their cults and sources of funding.

the lockstep closing of the liberal media ranks to stop AOC's presidential campaign in its tracks before it has even begin is as fine an instance of la peur du rouge as you'll ever see
Saying "um, ah, well..." for thirty seconds and then changing the subject has been the literal policy of the united states as regards the defense of Taiwan for decades. The whole point is to avoid giving a straight answer. If you want to critique on FP at least read a Wikipedia first.
AOC’s Munich Stumble Is a Warning to the Left
It’s time for progressives to get more sophisticated about national security and foreign policy.

Every day I read a lecture on here about how the left has to better tailor its message. By which they mean compromise it so it’s not the left’s message anymore. Buddy you are already filling that role I’m not doing your job too.

I cannot figure out from this what the left is supposed to do besides 'use AI' and 'acknowledge its usefulness.' I wish for more specificity about how one responds to specific counterarguments. The main effort people put in is to debunk claims made about it. We need more to know why they are wrong.

hold up there's porn now
If you've looked at Xitter anytime recently, it is overwhelmingly (a) bots (b) porn (c) scams (d) Russian/MAGA agitprop.

And of course (e) Musk-worship.

Plus the "legit" institutions that are still on there. As they should not be.

automated voice transcription is a technology that, word by word, had a pretty clear failure mode.

It might transcribe a word incorrectly but you could notice it didn't make sense with the words around it; the failure was VISIBLE.

ok ok i know i know this isn't the place to argue but i just have to point out that if you took the million you could siphon off 25 cents a day to pay yourself and give the rest to charity

they dislike having this pointed out
I remember one from years ago now where it was a guy asking if you’d rather have one million dollars right now or make 25 cents a day in passive income every single day of your life, with the implication being “take the quarter”

It's amusing that the devices people will presumably need to harness this glorious bounty of AI either won't exist or won't be affordable oh and the data centers that are creating the demand for all of this RAM also won't exist.

Also, by "amusing" I mean "infuriating".
