I'm told I'll seem more like a real person if I put something here
And that will make it less likely that I'll get blocked
But then I think about how strong the desire not to be perceived is
And I wonder why I'd want to avoid being blocked
One thing I ask people when they're struggling with a decision is "what is the positive outcome you're hoping for?" Sometimes, for instance, the thing you WANT to do, like replying to someone to tell them they're an idiot, doesn't have any possible outcomes better than just yelling at your screen...

I'm so enchanted by The River has Roots by @amalelmohtar.com that, only hallway through the audiobook, I've ordered the hardcover because there are so many delightful turns of phrase that I want to be able to linger on and highlight and dogear. Masterful use of language, I love it.

I already hated the term "plant based" for a variety of reasons but now I'm seeing things that are JUST PLANTS being described as plant based. What other type of "corn" is there? How else would you make it?

This might be my favorite example of the Streisand effect yet - this might be the first time in history that 60 Minutes was the main character of Bluesky.

I have watched this video every time it has popped on my timeline today, which is many many times, and I fall in love with them both a little more every time, and I hereby declare this a "Tom Holland umbrella video" level event and so the same rules now apply to this video.

GIVE AWAY! // AKA WE DID IT AGAIN!

Since The Night Guest is coming out in paperback we decided to try to gift another copy bitten by Uggi. And it went … a little *too* well. (See picture 🧵)

Like and share this post and on December 30th I will select a winner and send them this teeth marked copy!

Congratulations, Mark Cuban. You are the current winner of my personal "what is the most generic word I can get Chris to mute just because it's my last name and I use my gigantic platform to say the dumbest things" contest.

I mean, this is 100% true, though? Only dropping to 36% while you fuck over every single person in the country who doesn't share your last name? That's a triumph. Holding steady at 41% while you try to make life better for everyone, even the person who tried to have his VP killed? That's awful.
AP on Trump now, and Biden in June 2022.

For Trump, declining to 36 percent approval is “good news.”

For Biden, holding steady at 41% is “a source of concern.”

The "a housecat will eat its owner if the owner dies" thing is so weird to me. What meaning are you even assigning to that? Why are you acting like "you show a creature that you care about it by waiting until it dies and then NOT eating it's corpse" is some sort of moral high ground?

I really need to just sit down one day and watch a movie a dozen times so I can participate in those "A movie you've seen more than X times" things. There are a few movies that I can say with certainty I've watched at least four times, and that feels like a LOT of rewatches for me.

1) Elfquest
2) Dread
3) Monopoly
4) The Minister's Cat
If you wanted to run say, four different games that weren't Dungeons & Dragons in hopes of showing people the breadth of the TTRPG hobby, what games would you run for them? Assume that they are sort of familiar with 5E.

There's a ton to dislike about this post and map, but the thing I find most deeply upsetting are the entirely bizarre lines connecting regions.

Why must a movie be “good”? Is it not enough to sit somewhere dark and see a beautiful face, blue?
