a quick thread of some of the references to Australia in the newly released Epstein documents that I found

Can we circle back to the part where the NY Times never disclosed that they have incriminating information on Donald Trump from sent by Epstein that's been sitting on their email servers for nearly a decade?
Stuff like this makes me wonder why there hasn't been any reporting about Trump having affairs during his presidencies

YES I love how they’re like “he’s a Kennedy” when that man is 100% Bouvier and Beale. Put him in congress and see some fabulous Grey Gardens shenanigans.

I had a minor surgery with general anaesthetic this morning and beforehand I sent this meme to Tom and made him promise that if I died he would show it to everyone at my funeral

Another lingering question I have about all this: why did Deloitte even have access to the Department's AI tools - when it was meant to be doing "independent" assurance of the unlawful mutual obligations system?

i keep seeing this ad where this guy says “Gemini I’ve never been camping before, what should I pack?” and the LLM says “you and your dog should have matching bucket hats!”. and well I think it should be illegal to run this ad in Australia

I am interacting with the private health insurance industry for the first time in my life in order to access necessary care for a condition that has been ignored by my doctors since I was a teen and wow this entire system just assumes you’ve got thousands in cash lying around

I wrote in the Sizzle how it turns out giving the government free reign to use your company's cameras as warrantless surveillance machines used by ICE will get backlash - even from police!

(fun fact: the camera-maker, Flock, reportedly counts a NSW government agency as a customer)

I'll entertain technical arguments about the Summary Offences Act (NSW) when someone can explain how Police can kettle and move on small groups protesting climate issues but somehow this out front of state parliament renders them powerless. www.smh.com.au/national/nsw...
What we just witnessed was state-sanctioned Nazism
What on earth did the NSW Police think a rally organised by the National Socialist Network would be about?

Unfortunately Keating also introduced the concept of mutual obligations and then found that lots of public servants didn’t want to enforce rules that would cut people’s payments off and then concluded you’d have to start privatising some of it then. He laid the groundwork for Howard’s butchery
Gough raised unemployment benefits to their highest level relative to poverty - then Fraser (and his treasurer John Howard) fucked it up as soon as they could.

Hawke/Keating repaired some of the damage... then Howard fucked it up for good

Whitlam Dismissal take

The greatest achievement of the Dismissal has been the crushing of the ALP’s ambition to actually bring a better world into being.

Hawke sealed the deal by making the mark of success decent management of a capitalist economy.

Now it’s just ambition to be in government.

go ahead, write another take about what australia can learn from mamdani. claim all the ALP needs to do is magically get more bold. call on the left to do better video content. get paranoid that the rise of mamdani could also upend the establishment here. conflate left populism with right populism

This is kinda like the NDIS in Australia. It started out as this impossible dream of a government actually supporting disabled people and then almost immediately was turned into this punishing gauntlet of bureaucratic bullshit to extract value from us and leave us dying.
The frustrating thing about the ACA is for those of us that lived through it's construction--we were so close to something that would have worked, but for Ted Kennedy dying and Joseph fucking Liebermann.

It is a peculiar quirk of the Australian social security system that when given the option to either engage with Centrelink for the disability support pension, or work to death for slightly better yet still poverty level wages, many women will choose the non-centrelink option, and try to hug it
We're working on chronic pain stuff & my therapist tried to geently float the idea that I might be too disabled for conventional employment so I went "oh! dw, you're not the only doctor to say that" and she asked who else had so I said "several GPs" and she... you know those motionless double takes?
