Oh shit, it's 2025, so time for a new one-post review thread of every game I play this year! I use an x/10 ranking because it helps convey general sentiment with limited characters. 10 is Maximum Finn Shit, 5 is OK, 1 Super Bad.
Oh, I technically never made a 2024 iteration of this thread! Ah well, as good a time to start as any. As always, 10 great, 5 OK, 1 sucks ass and if you want more in-depth thoughts go check out my Backloggd: backloggd.com/u/Mr_Finn_Mc...
Going through some old RPG notes, still very happy with this mystery I wrote for the Between.

On the one hand Disney are invested in LLMs and financially need this to work, on the other this inevitably leads to videos of Mickey dicking down Yensid in the hour. I think ends up with knife fights at HQ.
Bob Iger says Disney+ will soon have AI-generated short form content from users

Well that's a massive fucking shame. One fewer game to buy I guess.
Well, fuck. Revoking any and all Peripeteia recommendations (and I wish I could un-back it on Kickstarter) based on the very thinly veiled transphobia from the dev (the first one in the screenshots here).

I hate this.
Acquaintance grabbed these screencaps. Idk if it's getting purged.

"Second stage is people rejecting conspiracy discourse" is genuinely hilarious, I gotta teach em a little about Yakub and maybe they'll change their tune

Unfortunately Keating also introduced the concept of mutual obligations and then found that lots of public servants didn’t want to enforce rules that would cut people’s payments off and then concluded you’d have to start privatising some of it then. He laid the groundwork for Howard’s butchery
Gough raised unemployment benefits to their highest level relative to poverty - then Fraser (and his treasurer John Howard) fucked it up as soon as they could.

Hawke/Keating repaired some of the damage... then Howard fucked it up for good

Some people you give your time & receive gifts a thousandfold over. It's not that you calculated it, or contracted it, it just is that echo of the blessed in Dante's Paradise, who say "lo, here comes one who will increase our loves." A mirror of light, who sees you truly but also your best self.
My dearies. I’m keenly aware that in real & meaningful ways, we all owe very few people our time. Thank you for choosing to share some of yours with me, either in the #AW3rd kickstarter, in conversation at #Metatopia2025, or in other #ttrog spaces. How we are with each other matters.

Following Dominic Tarason is fucked up, man. You'll think you're reasonably across all the good indie shit that's out there. Then you see a thread of his float onto your timeline and come to with another dozen games you want to check out.
There's a round of GOTY discussion going around, and I realized that a lot of my favourite games this year have been absolute Sicko Picks.

So here's a few games I've loved so far in 2025, starting with a mild one: Babushka's Glitch Dungeon. A scrunkly lil' puzzle-metroidvania with so many fun verbs

I'm one of the legions of people whose brain was completely rewritten when the first iteration of Apocalypse World came out nearly 20 years ago, time to do it all again baby.

Often I've reflected that this selection makes it look like I drive like a maniac, which is about as far from true as it could possibly be.
I enjoy this kind of thing.

The last time New York had a decent mayor was Giuliani, over two decades ago. Say what you will about him (you younger people only know what's become of him after leaving office), but he really did clean up the city. He oversaw the removal of its two biggest eyesores.

"This is not a game" is the critical equivalent of "Dogs can't play basketball " - it's an appeal to the refs, a claim that this situation shouldn't be engaged with at all, and frankly I'm going to assume it's because you're scared the dog will kick your ass.
i wish people would be substantially more careful with their choice to dismiss art/games they don't like as "not art / not a game"
