What a fudging wuss of a writer, good grief.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Seriously contemplating using my mysterious superpowers to win every olympic event just to screw over the olympics.

Just like everything that's been done to Palestine is a trial for everything that will be done to you.

You stand up for the most devalued among us or you fall before the thresher with us all.
Each new law against trans people in society will just become the platform for the next law restricting someone else. Possibly you. Dont fall for it.

Plus, this

One of the biggest studies ever done, showing that not only do we not have an advantage, we may have a disadvantage, commissioned by who? The IOC

Its not like they don't know this
Transgender Athletes Could Be At A Physical Disadvantage, New Research Shows
An IOC-funded study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine earlier this month suggests transgender athletes could be at a physical disadvantage.

You fucking cowardly shitheels.
The International Olympic Committee is set to ban trans and intersex women from competition. This is despite the fact that for 20 years, the IOC has allowed trans athletes to compete and only 1 has ever competed and none have ever won a medal.

IOC set to introduce blanket ban on transgender women in female sport
The ban is reportedly expected to come into effect early next year

More practical idea than anything that's been suggested for Brisbane 2032 thus far.
kill the olympics, replace it with a global egg and spoon race. One competitor per nation, marathon distance, no rules other than "one egg per person, the egg stays on the spoon"

It’s genuinely fascinating how this one fleeting exchange on Community just nailed white people to the wall, then and now.

This is kinda like the NDIS in Australia. It started out as this impossible dream of a government actually supporting disabled people and then almost immediately was turned into this punishing gauntlet of bureaucratic bullshit to extract value from us and leave us dying.
The frustrating thing about the ACA is for those of us that lived through it's construction--we were so close to something that would have worked, but for Ted Kennedy dying and Joseph fucking Liebermann.

It is a peculiar quirk of the Australian social security system that when given the option to either engage with Centrelink for the disability support pension, or work to death for slightly better yet still poverty level wages, many women will choose the non-centrelink option, and try to hug it
We're working on chronic pain stuff & my therapist tried to geently float the idea that I might be too disabled for conventional employment so I went "oh! dw, you're not the only doctor to say that" and she asked who else had so I said "several GPs" and she... you know those motionless double takes?

This sounds really bad.

And, then you look at Australia.

In 2023, 80% of incarcerated kids in Australia were in unsentenced detention.

By comparison, the below number represents about a third of US incarcerated kids.

Few understand just how twisted Australia actually is, I think.
13,300 confined children in the U.S. are detained pretrial – aka, they’re legally innocent

Locking kids up in deplorable conditions is traumatizing and counterproductive to public safety in the short & long term

What’s most startling reading this is how much it sounds like a more flattering rendition of a certain Tesla-affiliated billionaire’s life trajectory. ‘Got lucky at 25 but wasn’t actually good at anything so said and did reactionary bullshit to stay relevant until everybody hated him’.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

It’s amazing that there’s actually no data that supports what that dude is saying and he still delivers it like it’s just accepted science. It’s the equivalent of saying ‘if you want planes to go faster, you should paint them red. Red is a fast colour.’ and expecting people to respect you.

I’m imagining all the training they could give their employees about judging distances. ‘No, not 5 feet, 4 feet, you want to seem like a weirdo??’

Seriously, though, ludicrous behaviour.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

One of my favourite things to do is introduce outdated Australian slang to people who have been in this country for like 10+ years. ‘What do you mean ‘shirty’? What is a stoush?’

Thinking about it, I think one of the reasons so many people can’t take COVID’s continued risks seriously (including me) is because so much of our everyday life is about weathering pain, trauma, suffering ‘for the greater good’ and so we struggle to value our wellbeing or that of others.

I would put more money on continuing to harvest infinite energy from the sun over assuming that forcing everyone to use The Machine The Lies To You is the steady basis of an entire economy
A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?
China has made cheap, clean energy available in huge quantities. The world should take the win econ.st/4oqFszB
