It’s a bit grim dealing with a medical situation where the immediate solutions are only really get rich or watch it get worse. And, even if I did get rich, I’m not sure if there’s actually a solution. It makes you really want to just roll over and let the tides come.

A while back, a video did the rounds about ‘the price of community is tolerating being annoyed by other people’ and I thought it was very sad that people saw it as inspiring. Speaking from my own journey, genuine care neuters annoyance and irritation. Community is more than tolerance. It is reward.
I see variations of this a lot. I think it’s an unfortunate framing. Forget obligation. It is a joy to be kind, to be respectful, to be compassionate. It is a blessing to foster a kinder world. It is something we primally all long to do. Many have forgotten but they can be reminded. We love to help.
“We don’t owe anyone anything” No, we do owe people kindness, respect, compassion, and humanity. We owe it to the next generation to create a society and world kinder and gentler than before. We owe it to our community members to stand in solidarity with them and be kind. We owe each other community

"Success clearly drives you insane. I’ve been on social media long enough that I’ve seen people who get too popular driven mad by their own bullshit, huffing their own paint — and it would be one thing if this was just posters, or media, or artists, but this also destroys academics."
I wrote about the endless temptation successful people feel to justify and feel justified in a clearly toxic system. Happy new year.

The idea that troops should be protected while they do war crimes is weird and also weirdly commonplace right now.
NYT, WaPo learned of the secret US raid on Venezuela soon before it was scheduled to begin but held off publishing what they had at the administration's request to avoid endangering US troops

the reason they don’t bother to manufacture the consent beforehand is that everyone just sort of does it for them post-facto now

As an interesting (not necessarily better) contrast to this, Taskmaster NZ’s first six season champions? Five white women, one Tongan dude. Taskmaster Australia? Two white women, one white dude, one Asian dude. Taskmaster UK? 20 seasons, 12 white dude champs, one not-white champ total. Grim.
Something I did a while back. As of Season 17, a non-white contestant of taskmaster UK was 800x more likely to be the worst scorer in a season than the best. Since Season 17, every season champion bar one has been a white man - and the outlier was a white woman. So… good luck to this man, I guess!

Worth considering that most high-value/high-interest investment areas in recent years have been based on speculative-to-non-existent value and the richest men in the world are often so because of intangible assets. The visible control of the oil is what gives them economic power - not its delivery.
If you think Trump's comments about capturing oil in V aren't sincere because the country has bad, old and inefficient fossil infrastructure, I regret to inform you that all fossil fuel infrastructure is bad, old and inefficient and none of these people actually care about the process or product

For nonlawyers, it’s worth noting that statements like this have—as a formal matter—important legal effects as a matter of international law. If such statements are *not* made, and in volume, future arguments that Trump’s invasion sets a legal precedent will stand on much firmer legal ground.
Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide: "International law is universal and binding for all states. The American intervention in Venezuela is not in accordance with international law."

And boy was that prediction on it huh
Never underestimate Australian government desire to suck Americas dick.
I think this administration has vastly overestimated the rest of the world's willingness to put up with imperial oil war bullshit right now. I don't think this ends well. No war.

Yep, the only reason that there is genocide happening in Gaza, is because the United States allows it. If tomorrow, the United States ordered Israel to stop, it would stop, because the US is not the puppet of Israel, Israel is the puppet of the United States.

Joe Biden's own words:
And Biden has also been the biggest Israel dick rider for like 40 years.

"There is no apology to be made. It is the best $3 billion investment we make. Were there not an Israel, the USA would have to invent an Israel to protect her interest in the region." -Joe Biden in the Senate in 1986

If Albo got kidnapped by the US, he’d release a statement about how he’d had concerns about the Australian head of state for some time now and hopes stability could be returned to the region soon and they wouldn’t even need to ask him to do it
"We urge all parties to support dialogue and diplomacy"? What kind of nonsense statement is this? The US just bombed them with no cause, kidnapped their president and his wife, and declared that they would be running the country in order to secure its oil for themselves.

It’s worth noting that Trump publicly ordered the (successful) assassination of the second most important leader in Iran with no congressional approval or oversight in 2020. Obama had a US citizen assassinated by drone strike in 2011. But, post-genocide, they now know they can just drop the mask.
I’d argue that the world’s multilateral failure to stop a 2-years-and-counting US-funded genocide of PaIestinians in Gaza had already taken us to that very dark place

This is what the US does with its impunity
Whatever you might think of Maduro, the seizure and kidnapping of a head of state takes us to a very dark place. Vast, arbitrary, extra-legal power, which could be exercised almost anywhere, regardless of the character of the target government.

America has always been run like a criminal syndicate but good god they had good PR. You can really see how good it was now. Wow. When the smoke screen of legalese and dull newspeak is ripped away, you see the raw ugliness of empire.

My sister was talking about how Trump kidnapping the president of Venezuela reminded her of the scene from the Dark Knight where Batman kidnaps Lau from Hong Kong. I told her I was pretty sure that connected to an actual political event atm. Researched. 2007 Venezuela. Interesting.

About two weeks ago, I was explaining to a friend why the Brisbane 2032 Olympics are basically impossible - in no small part because international consensus will be shafted by then. And, boy, stuff like this really emphasises my point.

Albo is gonna fold like a paper bag on this and still end up kidnapped by the us by like June

A vent: feeling super bummed out by disability and medical bureaucracy and capitalism. It’d cost about a thousand bucks just to get prescribed a medicine that’d cost me about four thousand bucks a month. And, if I don’t, I might just keep getting sicker and sicker in so many ways. Siiiiigh.
