In the wake of a massive confirmation that the tech industry’s run by deranged pedophiles, not a single tech platform should have the balls to start demanding ID and enacting invasive policies.

Yet they continue. They’re the ones being outed as dangerous and we’re the ones being regulated.

This is so horrific I am overwhelmed.

This is what the government of your current guest is doing, @albomp.bsky.social, the war criminal you're suppressing dissent over.

attending a protest = "antagonising police" is very literally and precisely the gaslighting doublespeak of the fascist Trump government. I really don't make that comparison lightly but this is systemic, deep institutional collapse
NSW Police Minister saying to the people please don't antagonise the cops by, you know, exercising your basic human rights

Given the brutality and organisation of the NSW police I guess if I had the opportunity to ask a minister a question, it would be "have any NSW Police undertaken training in other countries and if so, which countries, and how long has this been going on and what benefit/detriment has been measured?"

Yeah, I think that's also why I want us to confront it now before we really get there. I don't know if that's going to be possible, but the mix of desperation and derangement inherent to the revolution usually is probably another part of why fascism keeps on coming back.
It's not all of it, or even most of it, but there's a sliver of derangement in the decision to confront rather than survive. It isn't immiseration, there's endless evidence immiseration doesn't produce these junctures, but there is a madness that comes from just staring at evil.

We're living in literally the opposite of a meritocracy: a society that rewards rich parasites, punishes the innovator, denies the working class legitimacy, & pushes everybody to the breaking point to achieve less than nothing. The sole purpose of it is to keep the economic system going...

If the ABC had asked reporters to go to the protest to talk to the crowd then they would have been roughed up by the NSW police and have no doubt about what happened. Instead the ABC read News Corp's opinion pieces and then went to the police and politicians press conferences.

I have to wonder if contemporary sci-fi is so unpopular because the current mode is a kind of centrist liberalism that hardly anyone (except I guess Chuck Schumer) wants. It is an ideology that has failed to meet the needs of the current moment and most of us are leaving it behind.
