This is your reminder that Hungarian-Jewish scientist George de Hevesy dissolved two Nobel Prizes in aqua regia to keep them out of the hands of the Nazis.

He then left the dissolved solution on his shelf and fled to Sweden.

(After the war he un-dissolved the gold and the prizes were re-cast.)

another benefit of using signal before you need it is though messages are encrypted they can still tell when someone started using it or if they're using it. having normalized usage before many people in a region join at the same time in theory makes harder to infer usage is part of a recent pattern
A thing that you can do right now to support your community is to download and install the SIGNAL messaging app and learn how to use it *before* ICE/CBP attacks your city.

wooof having watched that presser just now, "don't take the bait" is a real shit thing to tell people who are, by all knowledge and information and evidence, acting in defense of themselves and their neighbors and their communities

the people of MN have been murdered, brutalized and kidnapped for weeks now and have remained *amazingly* peaceful in the face of it. lecturing citizens to not “take the bait” etc is pretty disrespectful after a point and avoids the real question: how long are they supposed to take this, undefended?
State investigators have been on the scene in North Minneapolis.

I know you’re angry. I’m angry. What Donald Trump wants is violence in the streets.

But Minnesota will remain an island of decency, of justice, of community, and of peace.

Don’t give him what he wants.

Unfortunately, this is the part where I remind people that Black 10th graders get beat up by cops every day.

This is the part where I remind people about modern civil asset forfeiture, where US police steal more value from people (mostly Black) than every form of theft other than wage theft.
It is in no way “law enforcement” to beat up an American 10th grader and steal and sell his possessions.
This is 10th-grader Arnoldo Bazan.

A citizen.

Immigration agents grabbed him and put him in a chokehold.

"We're from the United States bro!' he screamed.

Agents took and sold his phone

And when he finally got home hours later, his shirt was ripped, he neck had angry, red welts, and he sobbed.

So much for that "third place" I guess.
Unlike other businesses in Minneapolis, Starbucks is allowing ICE agents into stores against the concerns of baristas and our community.

That's why our union is taking action. Across Minnesota, baristas are demanding that Starbucks update their guidance around ICE immediately.

We lost a really effective customer service channel as well as a lever of influence. Definitely a contributing factor to products and services getting worse.

We need such a wide-ranging backlash towards ethical governance, ethical business, and quality. It's all related to levers of power.
There's only one thing I really miss about Twitter now that it's a repugnant sinkhole of Nazi child pornography, and that's the ability to publicly shame corporations into behaving better. 🧵

I don't know how to convey to people that POLICING in the US is experienced by countless Black and brown people in the way that ICE is currently acting towards people.

So many things, from annoyance all the way up to fascist oppression, could be prevented if people could accept the fact that other people have different desires and ways of being in the world and that that's a) completely fine and b) not anybody else's business.
So I don’t want a bathtub. Men literally refuse to accept this. So now my part time job is arguing with those men about building me what I want versus what they think I should want.

I know people on Bsky know this but I hope it filters out: The feds are OCCUPYING the Twin Cities. This is a blockade, a siege. They are shutting down economic and civic activity. They are conducting "papers please" stops. They are criminalizing being a bystander/witness.

You could be next.

"SAMHSA officials no longer believe the defunded programs align with the Trump administration's priorities."

Makes sense that a government on the side of measles would also align with addiction and mental illness.

This is Minneapolis:

Walk into my neighborhood ACE last night & see the signage on their door notifying fed agents that it’s private property and cannot be used for immigration enforcement. These signs are all over the city.

Walk in & the nearest shelf has goggles & whistles.

It's 10am in Minneapolis and rapid response is underwater, reports of chemicals deployed already.

As others have pointed out, the ratio of feds (with more arriving) to residents and square mileage here is extreme compared to what we experienced in Chicago.

We are in freefall.

HAPPENING NOW: In federal court in MN, DOJ is struggling to articulate why a person following an ICE vehicle — so long as they are obeying traffic laws — can be stopped for "reasonable suspicion" of a crime.

Judge Menendez sharply questioning that contention.

They don't seem to realize that the video of them abusing a legal observer is probably worse than whatever video the legal observer had already obtained of them.
New video shows ICE agents detaining a US citizen legal observer in Minneapolis.

The agents smashed his car window, dragged him out, and placed a knee on his neck.

I've been using this pattern with some slicing to make various queer flag whistles. Since I'm mostly bounded by starting prints, I go for ones I figure folks are more likely to actually carry.
