Yesterday orcas exited Puget Sound via Admiralty & gray whales fed in & around the Snohomish River Delta.

📷 Pictured here is Hibulb Lookout, Everett which sits above the delta & affords sweeping views of Possession Sound - a lovely place to observe grays & many other species.

Yesterday: orcas traveled through Agate Pass & at last report were heard in darkness in Sinclair Inlet, Bremerton; gray whale Little Patch ate ghost shrimp off the Langley (Whidbey) seawall.

Looking forward to today's sightings!

We love our cetacean friends of Puget Sound & beyond. It’s likely reports of grays, & possibly orcas will surface today.

📷 Grays are known for their 🩶-shaped exhalations. Here’s repost of CRC53 "Little Patch", a most beloved whale who has our 🩷s. By Jason Cook 1/18/26.

Orcas & grays inhabited the Sound yesterday. Earlier today orcas were reported near Vashon. Did others stay?

🪅 Today is Super Bowl champs Seahawks parade day which of course means a lot of lovely celebrating downtown & extra traffic.

Yay Hawks!

Today, orcas are making their way down Colvos Passage, could it be…

Yesterday’s pod were the T124A2s. This family has been in many times since, but in searching for archive images I found these from this day 5 years ago:

A few reports on orcas in Saratoga Pass yesterday means good possibility they’re still around today. And, we know several North Puget Sound gray whales are here, w/more expected to arrive in the days & weeks ahead. 🩶

Orcas were hanging around Commencement Bay, Tacoma earlier this morning. They’ve since moved to the north towards East Passage.
And, gray whales should still be around Whidbey Basin.

Little Patch; we hope he has reason to comes back inland. Miss him when he’s not here.
Wish you well buddy! 🩷
After feeding for 6 weeks in Puget Sound, gray whale CRC-53 "Little Patch" surprised us when he showed up near Victoria, BC on Jan. 28! What's next for LP? Will he return to Puget Sound, head north to Vancouver as he did last year, or keep exploring?

Yesterday, Bigg's orcas, T46s (-T46D), T100Bs & T100E, who have been traveling inland Puget Sound together for weeks, ended the day off southern end of Vashon.

Have they stayed over again?

Bigg’s orcas (mammal-eating type) are back plying the waterways in the north end around Whidbey & Camano Islands. Thor is present so likely his siblings are too.

Gray whales are in that neighborhood as well.

Sunshine & blue sky graced us yesterday along w/orcas & gray whales. A repeat today w/some areas enveloped in fog, incl. South Sound where whales were heard.

The fog will burn off, whales will be seen, & today will shine then end in golden hues.

Absolutely stunning day yesterday here in the Pacific Northwest! Complimenting the atmospheric beauty were several groups of orcas: K pod (fish-eating Southern Residents) & two groups of Bigg's (mammal-eating type).

Who stayed over?
