Every "population crisis" article in western media is just "WHERE ARE THE WHITE BABIES" in disguise and we absolutely do not have to give any credence to any of them

This is another consequence of the colonization of New Adult, esp of the romantasy variety, into YA. Publishers aren't just selling YA to adults, they're selling YA to adult women (usually cisallohet and white). That category doesn't want a book about 14yo boys playing basketball. My teen boys do.

Going through the spring 2026 young adult fiction releases, and from what I can tell so far, all of the books with male protagonists are romances. I don't see any sports books, male friendship, action/adventure, humor, mystery, or dystopian books (that don't share the stage with romance).

This goes back to an ongoing conversation I'm in about givers vs takers. And how it's often seen as a norm in romantic relationships to put up with behaviors that are unacceptable in any other relationship dynamic. IME takers aren't gender specific, but we do accept more of the behavior from cis men

thanks to everyone for letting me know wolverine is 5"3 in the comics, short king pride, sorry i only saw the movies (and then wanted to get into the comics but got wildly intimidated by the sheer quantity of them)
a big part for me of finally coming out as a trans guy and starting medical transition is just accepting that im gonna be a kinda goofy looking dude. im not gonna be an adonis! im not gonna look like wolverine! i'm gonna be 5'3 and stocky even if i work out like a fiend. but that's ok!

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

drone shots look like shit. so does 4k/120hz video. a shaky, brief helicopter shot in an old movie or tv show still looks cool. the human brain does not like the crispness or smoothness of computers and robots. my guess is that we evolved this instinct during the Computer War of 25,000 BCE

Here’s a Harvard Health article from 2020 debunking the new trend of “dopamine fasting.”

Lately I’ve seen this shit being marketed as “dopamine detox.”

It’s just another wellness industry grift.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that does a lot more than “make you feel good.” It’s not a drug.

and on a personal level, we have to constantly CONSTANTLY police the part of ourselves that cares more about the comfy cozy status quo than we care about survivors who have been brave enough to speak up about what was done to them.
This doesn't apply to just NG; it doesn't just apply to entertainment or media industries. These quotes, from that 2024 post linked upthread, apply to the current situation & far too many others to count. Even if those files are fully released, we still gotta burn down the system that created them.

That's what's not in the handbook on surviving trauma. Oh you think this means you're getting compassion? No this means you'll be shitted on for life.
Society doesn't take your trauma as an indicator you could use some care. Hell no. Society takes your trauma, if it's the big bad boy trauma, as a mark on you that makes you a freak.

One more thing. When I wrote about this study showing one-third of Americans don't drive, people were messaging me saying this cannot be true for LA.

In LA County *23 percent* of the population is under 16. Kids are people! We must plan for their movement, just like all nondrivers. Hope that helps!
Highly recommend diving into NRDC's study on car access, which @keawilson.bsky.social wrote about here: usa.streetsblog.org/2025/10/02/report-16-million-have-no-car-access-at-all

Where Nadir was killed, 14% of LA households are car-free. But the infrastructure does not match that reality

“This isn’t who we are?"

“I never thought I’d live in a country where…”

All kind of falls flat when you know how the prison system works here.
After over 500 hearings, lawyer Douglas Jennings quit representing clients before the South Carolina Parole Board, citing the board's consistent rejections. "I just couldn’t justify taking somebody’s money," he told Bolts last year.
