ICE dining at a restaraunt and then arrsting people working there isn't just cruel and racist, it also invokes power and a master-slave dynamic: being served by those over whom you exert power to abuse, brutaluze, and destroy symbolically harkens back to slavery and conquest.
New in PN: 'Abolish ICE' is imperative

"There's no amount of training that can instill basic humanity in thugs who willingly mistreat women, children, and old men. ICE agents reportedly dined at a Mexican restaurant in MN before arresting employees. How will 'training' fix that level of depravity?"
'Abolish ICE' is imperative
It's also better politics than you might think.

A legal asylum-seeker who works at Chipotle and plays music at a church in Maine went missing. His pastor searched and searched, eventually finding his abandoned car with the keys on the floor.

ICE grabbed him. No criminal record. No explanation.

Days after Secretary Noem took office, she purported to "vacate" decisions by Secretary Mayorkas to extend TPS for Venezuela and Haiti — even though the law says repeatedly that TPS, once granted, lasts until it expires.

The 9th Circuit says she had no authority to do that.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s termination of Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans and Haitians was unlawful, a Ninth Circuit panel found.

It’s the first time an appellate court has ruled on the substance of Trump efforts to dismantle the TPS program.

To paraphrase Dave Barry, someone who is nice to you, but cruel to most of America, is not a nice person.

Narcissists tend to like superficially charming but awful people because the superficial charm satisfies their need for admiration.
Clarence Thomas is apparently one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and famously knows the name of every single employee at the Supreme Court, down to the night janitors. His character is still bad! Not sure what “Alito is a kind in interpersonal situations” has to do with this.

It seems to me from the polling it essential to keep hammering that Trump is lying about his immigration goals and we have copious receipts from what his agencies are doing on the ground to prove it. The parts people don't like ARE because the actual goal is ethnic cleansing, not because of mistakes
i just don't think it's a secret! trump's approval among independents is 28%! he has been sharply underwater on immigration since July of last year!

moderation is not the halfway point on every issue. concentration of measure means there are no voters there.

The right never misses a chance to smear queer kids for something they have nothing to do with. It’s basically a provocation to violence.

The next Democratic president/Congress should offer to fly back every person deported after having TPS revoked, generously compensate them, and offer them citizenship. Let MAGA whine about replacement theory all they want. What they’re doing is reprehensible. We should make it right.
I know all eyes are on Minneapolis, but there's a fast-approaching nightmare in Springfield, Ohio.

Trump is revoking protected status for tens of thousands of Haitians living there on Feb. 3.

Reportedly, on Feb. 4, 1000 ICE agents are arriving to remove this population. Ethnic cleansing.

the venn diagram of people who disparage the humanities and people who squawk about "western culture" and "the classics" is almost a circle

and to square that circle: they believe the humanities should be a prestige hobby for ivory tower dilettantes while the rest of us toil as slaves or worse
I agree that it’s high fucking time that we stopped acting like we need to grovel and constantly justify the existence of some of our most incredibly elemental and ancient human pursuits.
