A reminder that Dachau and Bergen-Belsen were deadly because of disease. Anne Frank died of typhus. This is what concentration camps do.
ICE now confirming that there is a measles outbreak at the Texas concentration camp where young Liam was held.

that i, a proofreader, copyeditor, and book editor, make pretty egregious typos in almost every one of these posts is a good argument for why proofreaders and copyeditors really are necessary.

Revoking TPS and abducting asylum seekers should be considered a violation of those same principles
Violating hospitality is one of the oldest proscriptions across so many cultures.

reminder that they're doing this because of one (1) singular House seat being given to Salt Lake City

one singular fucking representative for the only real city in the entire state is too much for these scumbags
The Utah governor just signed a bill to expand his state's supreme court by two seats.

Conservatives have been angry at a series of judicial rulings, including one that safeguarded direct democracy in 2024 & one that struck down their gerrymander. 1st step of their retaliation.

our immigration system has inflicted a lot of cruel and unnecessary trauma on many over the decades

but i'm thinking a lot about the widespread generational trauma being done to young children of immigrants right now, when things have gotten so much worse

this pain is going to be with us forever

ofc trump doesn't write all the congressional endorsements his accounts lobby hard for, and i wouldn't be surprised if he never knew at all

but still, can you imagine if biden had lobbied hard in an election where he candidate lost and he was like "what are you talking about? never heard of it"
Reporter: A Democrat won a special election in Texas in an area that you won by 17 points

Trump: I’m not involved in that. That’s a local race. I don’t know anything about it. I had nothing to do with it.

The relevant facts about Anne Frank that made her story resonate with so many for so long is not her immigration status in the Netherlands.

And the Haitians in Ohio that the US govt is preparing to target for persecution have legal status. So even by that standard, the Anne Frank analogy works.
Trump's antisemitism envoy: "It is utterly inappropriate to compare Anne Frank to children hiding from ICE. This demeans the experience of those who died in the Holocaust."

Actual Holocaust survivors in Florida: "This reminds us of Anne Frank."

Liam is home, with his bunny hat and backpack. A small but important victory for everyone who spoke up. And a sign that our legal system can still work to protect us.

But there are still too many children trapped in ICE detention camps. Including a 2-month-old at the same facility Liam was held.
Liam is home now and we are grateful to @joaquincastrotx.bsky.social for traveling to Minneapolis with him and his dad.

Welcome home Liam ❤️❤️

i would love never reading the word "nubile" in an article written by a man ever again

I maintain that 40-70% of his popularity comes from the fact his name is a homophone for “gnome”

and a good deal of the rest comes from “Chomsky” sounding like a name that’s important and intellectually hefty
Chomsky grinds my gears because it's not like he's a Cambodia scholar or a Balkans scholar or a Ukraine scholar but certain people act like he's this authority on all those areas.

remember how Eric Schmitt is basically an open white supremacist who gave a shockingly white nationalist speech 5 months ago and also hired a guy who was too Nazi for Ron DeSantis last summer?

I don’t like it when Nazis threaten to kill Americans, tbh
Sen. Eric Schmitt: "Through their rhetoric we're already seen tragedies. We're gonna see more of them unless they pump the brakes on this stuff."

remember how for years Trump promised he’d release his tax returns as soon as some technical business with them was finished? pretty funny stuff.
STEPHANOPOULOS: How do you respond to people who say it's a conflict of interest for the president to be seeking funds from those who he's administering?

BLANCHE: We're looking at how to handle that. He's not wrong that what happened there was horrible, the fact his tax returns were leaked.
