fox news likes to devote segements to the ozone crisis, which was solved by coordinated multilateral action, as proof that climate change is nothing to worry about because its not the first time liberals panicked over something like this

It does feel like an unending Y2K loop.
"A bad thing is going to happen if we do nothing!"
*people put a lot of work into actively preventing or mitigating the bad thing*
"LOL you losers were worried over nothing."

OpenAI has absolutely zero ideas. They have no business. This is not a real business line and it’s so utterly vague and specious, I’m shocked at the credulousness to just print it without saying “there is no logical way this works of course” or talking about how the CFO of OpenAI is saying nonsense

Molly Conger has outdone herself. A tragic and heroic story from American history, beautifully told; a tribute to love and compassion and ordinary people and our shared humanity; a fierce polemic against injustice and state violence.

Listen, then cry, then go help your neighbors.
before renee, there was viola.

their stories have so much in common, it’s like history itself is screaming at us to pay attention. honor their memories, fight like hell with fire in your belly and love in your heart.

this is absolutely where it began for me. it's also, as a 12 year old, when i got the idea to create the hit comic strip dilbert
rather than talk about Scott Adams I want to talk about something weirder (me). Who else was really into Dilbert when you were 12. Who else was like, boy, I can't wait to work a cubicle job

yeah it's a big cop culture thing to act like you are under extreme threat at all times. and there is a lot of institutionalized panic about what people might do with their cars in particular.
I have to be honest. this isn't meant to downplay the seriousness of what's happening now, and this isn't meant to be glib. But this is also how ALL cops act. The first time I got screamed at like this by a cop, I was 16, because of a traffic jam in the school parking lot. Every single one of them
I think it is probably a bad idea to put clearly unhinged, angry psychopaths in federal law enforcement positions.

and the fact that it wasn’t pulled immediately after the grok CSAM incident says everything you need to know about the way “protecting children” is used as a justification for anything else. it’s never really about that at all. it’s all just power & capital.
Honestly think that if you pulled twitter from the App Store and shut it down it would fuck up the entire right wing ecosystem at that point. Like the entire media apparatus would fall apart.

First CES panel. Intuit CMO Thomas Ranese is proud of his company's integration with OpenAI, which involves giving AI read/write access to tax data. Since prompt injection attacks are unavoidable, I asked him who will be liable when customer data is exposed: Intuit, OpenAI, etc?

He had no idea.

Dear @nytimespr.bsky.social. Your press release re comments I gave to @transnews.network includes many errors but one assertion is true: “TNN featured an interview with a former editor on the International desk at The Times who was not involved in these coverage decisions.”

That is the problem

We have published the following update to our article following an email response from the New York Times.

Trans News Network has a policy against platforming bigotry. As such, we have declined to publish the Times' statement which included blatant transphobia.

Getting grok to publicly strip a woman’s likeness online or alter her image isn’t just horrifying at the level of the individual, it’ll be used to get us fired, too. It’s a technique to keep us in the home popping out babies because we lost our teaching job when some guy sent porn of us to our boss.

Conversely, perhaps more importantly, you gotta be willing to refuse to do things, because the means are evil, full stop, regardless of if the end, abstracted, could *maybe* be good.
The liberal is constantly caught in the "I hate the means, but i love the ends" of skullduggerousfuckery

Read this thread. I don't know what to say, other than we can't live like this anymore.
I‘m discontinuing my social media use for the foreseeable future and I want to explain why.

I woke up in the new year to discover that some guy on here had saved photos I took on New Year’s Eve and used Grok to remove my clothes. I know this because he showed me.

You can make LLMs say almost anything. A news organization reporting "what grok said" is engaging in journalistic malpractice. It doesn't know. It just creates plausible sounding words in response to a prompt.

It's like none of you know the traditional greeting to any POC: "I'm sorry for being white"! Who raised you all? 😔
I was forced to apologise for my whiteness once during a screening of cars 2 when I was found to be eating a can of baked beans in the theater and…
has anyone ever actually had to apologize for being white. certainly vance had never done this
