Here’s the story by itself.

Again: either he’s a terrible leader b/c he can’t hold his caucus, a terrible leader b/c he can’t communicate in a way that reflects tensions within the caucus, or a terrible leader b/c he feeds the public fairy tales.

Those are the options. None flatter him.
Scoop: Schumer privately fought to extend government shutdown
"We let him know what we were doing," said Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.).

the minute flights got canceled, Dems folded like a house of cards, leaving me to wonder why the fuck this post made some of you so angry
not enough chatter about how frequently members fly and how attacking airport capacity directly affects them in a way that cutting SNAP does not

In the midst of all that we are facing, I want us to think about who we are being told to look to for understanding in this moment, who is being propped up as the voice of wisdom, and ask how right were they in predicting this, a year ago, 5, 8 years ago, and then ask why they are being centered now

And the number of supposedly data-driven people who are comfortable with that is astounding to me. It turns out a lot of our political quants are FAR more invested in finding a curve that fits than they care whether the model is accurate and will stand the test of time.

One thing I find hard in this era of incipient fascism is to speak out in new, unfamiliar, and uncomfortable ways. I don't think Will Stancil—if I may be the first to drop his name without a "love-em-or-hate-em" qualifier—has ever had that problem. Good insight here on what it entails.

democrats of all stripes should be rallying around kat abughazaleh asap. it doesnt matter where you stand ideologically. trying to jail dissenters is fundamentally unamerican and 100% fascist. democratic leaders at all levels should be making noise about it. you dont need a poll or focus group.

one of the reasons voters believe the caricatures of the democratic party pushed by republicans is because the democratic party itself believes in the caricatures of the democratic party pushed by republicans
Duh. Those of us on the ground last year actually speaking with middle class/working class voters and who heard from these voters every single day the same - “Trump is an asshole, but Democrats are out of touch” - could’ve saved my new political party a lot of time & money producing this “report.”👇

If you are not there constantly attacking you have no idea what issues will catch salience. The right knows this. The left let's quantitative polling dictate the few things they allow themselves to talk about with who knows how many missed opportunities along the way.
My wife’s (in some cases three-time) trump voting relatives have started mentioning the ballroom to me, negatively; anecdata but I’d like to see some high quality polling. I think it’s a mistake by certain elite elected Dems to think this story isn’t breaking thru

Another interesting fact is just because there is no precedent for elected officials doing such brazen and extreme criminal acts directly in front of our faces does not mean it is somehow purely a "political matter" and not a criminal one.

I get that there are times when disputes over news coverage are a matter of emphasis or perspective on big, sprawling events, but it feels bad for public trust in a publication when it fails to accurately describe a video that’s 20 seconds long, and that everyone can see.
