Status Quo Politics is holding us back. Who will call for a big fight, and big change? The status quo cannot hold.

SCOTUS delenda est
Pinned
My position on impeachment is the same as it was six months ago: Impeachment is first about driving public attention to Trump’s crimes and corruption.

Democrats should introduce impeachment articles and force votes to boost their parallel media effort.

Performative public investigations matter.
Why push for impeachment?

Because politics is an exercise in moving public opinion as much as counting votes in the senate.

The Jan 6 Hearings were not a criminal proceeding against Trump that would end in jail, but they focused public attention.

Come on, this is clearly Russell Vought, Project 2025, and the Destroy American Academia White House Task Force.

It’s almost certainly not coming from Hegseth.

Ah, the classic contrarian without strong values: They build a brand on being contrarian a few times. But when they dip out of focus, they contrarian harder and harder.
Until suddenly liberals are oppressing them/they become a 9/11 denier
Going to need to a complete and total shutdown on podcasters and political livestreams until we can figure out what’s going on

there is no coming back from this for the united states — they will hate us forever — unless we work to hold these criminal monsters running our government responsible. Let's do this.

Nuremberg
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

right. Not just #AbolishICE:
Instead: More Immigration. Immigrants Make America Great.

We need more immigration.

We are a pluralistic multicultural democracy that benefits from immigrants, and that's been true throughout our history.
The US is a melting pot of talent and energy.
As @editorialboard.bsky.social says, #AbolishICE is actually narrow, a kind of liberalism-of-fear cruelty minimization. We can go beyond that and proudly advocate the diverse and inclusive society we saw with Bad Bunny's half time show.

Bad Bunny has a more developed political strategy than Schumer and Jeffries on immigration right now and that is a Big Problem

This is why it’s worth it
We could have the opportunity to make November 2026 a referendum on Trump AND the Supreme Court? And every senate campaign would be about whether or not we seat a 4th Trump SCOTUS nominee in 2027?
Let’s. Fucking. Go.

This is a common thread, and it’s important - because liberal democratic principles are the way forward and people like Calla are opposed to them
While individuals like Calla gained prominence for progressive advocacy on Palestine, their positions on Syria, Ukraine, the Uyghurs, and now Iran reveal a pattern of supporting any regime they perceive as going against the west. (3)

This is extremely important for us to make a future plan about NOW,

Because otherwise when we come back to power we will follow the UK Labour path on immigration (rightwing-lite due to no positive vision) and lose the next elections very very badly.
Yes, Obama (removals) and Biden (expulsions) were needlessly cruel toward immigrants too, matching Trump I in many ways, but not as cruel as Trump II.

Looking for an edge in college admissions? Just pull your kid from school. Homeschooling, long associated with hippies and religious conservatives in the U.S., is in the middle of a rebrand and a boom.

this thread is harrowing but these lawyers are fucking heroic
So it’s a race: how quickly can a person’s family realize they were snatched and find a lawyer, and how quickly can that lawyer get a habeas petition of file? And is that faster than ICE can load the detainee on a plane to Texas?

It’s exhausting and terrifying. It can be life and death.

Did any of the IG Farben people end up prosecuted at Nuremberg?
Damon Hininger to prison for the concentration camps, for denying Congressional oversight.

For the (shrinking) number of people defending Dem leadership inaction in my mentions, please watch this video.

This is a political scientist who has been a Congressional staffer and clearly outlines the tools of the minority.
We’ve more than a clue, y’all just conveniently ignore facts.

I was yelling Jan2025 re: Dems making Trump’s transition smooth as butter: unanimous confirmations etc which paved an express lane for Miller et al

the videos were and are important, and anyone who worked to stop them is ineffective at making change
Forced to observe that the chain of events 1) people not in MN yell at Stancil for OPSEC/taking video, 2) fewer videos circulate from people, 3) everyone forgets about MN

Deeply sarcastic congratulations to online NYC leftists for your excellent work
Sometimes very hard not to feel like the rest of the country has abandoned Minnesota. We STILL have ICE everywhere. Our schools, businesses, and economy are in profound crisis. But without Bovino here throwing tear gas, much of the country seems to not care at all what’s being done to us.

This was the concern with the 2 week delay.

The idea of trading some delay for splitting off the DHS bill was OK, but 2 weeks (+ the couple days before the deadline when it was agreed to) is politically forever.

We'll see what happens, protests are still massive, but the vibe does seem lower now.
Sadly, this is why Democratic leaders needed to act when the iron was hot — to lead, get out on the streets, and mobilize public opinion.

It may now be that their moment has passed and the public has moved on. If so, what a shame; what a lost opportunity.

Oh yes. Our response should be to rise up together
This is why those of us that are still motivated must continue undeterred by others lack of attention.

Let's also remember the framing here is bad. It's not "their" moment. It is ours.

let me share some life advice: I block the dipshit tankies. I find one and I look at their timeline and block everyone who likes their posts. Sometimes I go to THEIR timeline and block everyone who likes THEIR posts.

It works
I don't actually think this is true, I think people on social media talk a lot about average dipshit tankies because they're on here too, they often disproportionately shape the discourse, and they're usually in your mentions sending you death threats and calling you slurs.
big chunk of online left-of-center types took "intent doesn't matter" re: racism etc & allowed it to metastasize into "actual ability to wield power doesn't matter, ergo the average dipshit tankie and Guy Breaking The Leahy Law To Facilitate Genocide are not just morally but practically equivalent"

The horse is largely out of the barn now, because the major Trump nominees have all been confirmed and the budget is mostly done.

But Dems in the Senate could still stop consideration of all additional Trump judges, like this.
