The evolution of #Dungeons&Dragons, from the first box set (1974, top left), to the current edition (5e, bottom right.) I’ve owned 7 of these 9 editions. I started with the Holmes edition (1977, 2nd from the left in the top row), and I skipped 4e (2008, bottom left.)

So it goes.

🇬🇧 HISTORY CLASS: Yeah, we colonized America and they broke away. Whatever, shit happens. This term we're studying the Industrial Revolution.

🇺🇸 HISTORY CLASS: Our revolutionary war against the evil British is obviously the most important event of all time.

GUN SHOP OWNER (grinning): Just what you see, pal.

TERMINATOR: The phased plasma rifle is widely used, for example by the armed forces of Belgium.

GUN SHOP OWNER shakes his head in confusion. TERMINATOR leaves without any weapons.

Thread. Cyberpunk plots work very differently with the crappy excuses for software we have in the real world. 😉
"All right," said the hacker. "I'm in."

"You hacked the Gibson?"

"No. God no. But I got my deck onto the hotel wifi."
This kills me. The evil technology in Neuromancer and Snow Crash basically, like, worked? It wasn't like "what are the implications of the Metaverse for human society?! And also somehow the Metaverse completely sucks shit but now I have to go there to pay my pizza delivery bill?!"

Yeah, I noped out before the end of S1, didn't bother with S2. They assumed referencing the Tolkien lore would get the fun and magic to show up on their own. It didn't work.

The best thing to come out of Rings of Power is @bretdevereaux.bsky.social explaining how it makes no freaking sense.

I used to argue with randos on the internet a lot more.

Now I tell myself, "You can give yourself the gift of not caring what this nitwit thinks." Not once have I regretted it.
Yup, this is me, too. I was the original "someone is wrong on the Internet" guy. Now I just have other things I want to do with my life.
When people say shitty things to or about me, I used to kind of enjoy responding with something vastly more clever or cutting in response.

Now I mostly feel like I don't want to stoop to that level. It's just not fun or rewarding for me.

Let blowhards be blowhards, let jerks be jerks.

I'm happy.

Let's see if this will cheer you up - Valais Blacknose sheep in the snow.

They're from the Valais region of Switzerland. Known for their unique appearance, they have contrasting black patches with a shaggy white coat.

Both male & female sheep of this breed grow spiral-shaped horns.

Jim Kirk was the Bruce Lee of Star Fleet. Yes, this book is really a thing (and it’s written as if it was written by Kirk himself!) Yes, it’s every bit as awesome as that sounds. And yes, I absolutely ordered myself a copy as soon as I found out that this existed.

the Carolina Panthers looking absolutely terrible and losing a key game to the Bucs to drop them to 8-9 only to back into the playoffs the next day because the Falcons beat the Saints is the most NFC South thing to ever NFC South. One of the saddest postseason teams in memory.

Looking good for the Oilers but I'm hoping for even better. 🙏

And I love how the top 6 teams in the Metropolitan are exactly one point ahead of the next team below them.

This youngster just scored his first NHL goal against Edmonton. Bad for my team, good for him.

Better still for Barkey, he's in Edmonton and old enough for celebration drinks in Alberta. At 20 he can't do it back home in Philadelphia. 🙃
