Fights cancer with computers in Toronto, Canada. Fan of SF, cinema and various sports. Sort of an ominous robed figure pointing and saying "BEWARE" in a hoarse voice every time AI is mentioned. 🇨🇦/🇬🇧 citizen. Parent, husband, cat servant. He/him.
One might suppose it's a good thing that people dream of living in the UK. Years ago, it was pretty good for me as an immigrant. But now the British government insists on pandering to the worst bigots and cowards. 3/3

In particular, there's a young Bulgarian couple who are desperate to reach America. They will risk anything to get there. Rick sarcastically advises them to go back to Bulgaria. But we, the audience, understand exactly why they won't stop or turn back. 2/3

So, a bunch of my friends back in college actually researched the potential future mRNA applications could have.

I genuinely thought it sounded magical, something that might happen in the next century.

And now it's real! It's effective!

Retirement alone is going to be around 2.5%.

If the typical officer spends 40 years on the force, then about 1/40 of the force retires every year, and that's 2.5%.

Agree 100% with what you're saying.

In fact the NHS is *the* largest employer in Europe, and the 7th largest in the world. It's behind the armed forces of India, China, and the USA; Wal-Mart; Amazon; and China National Petroleum.

Yes! And the code is "prompting" the compiler to make the binary instructions the computer actually runs.

You want a way of prompting a machine, with sufficient precision for complex tasks? We have lots of them, they're called programming languages.

This applies to the Simpsons too. The first 10 or so series were about the quirky interests of the writing crew -- old movies, science, Japanese food, whatever. Later series of The Simpsons are primarily about The Simpsons.

Also why a lot of modern Star Wars is so bad. The Kenobi and Ahsoka series love the idea of the thing, but are not the thing. Rise of Skywalker was so terrified of being the wrong thing it ended up as nothing.

Andor worked because it was not afraid to be a new thing.
