This is a very kind thread about masks and how we're all human sometimes.
Since masking is being discussed, I wear a mask most places. I also use a nasal barrier spray and because I have mast cell fuckery that continues to not be diagnosed as anything, I take a lot of antihistamines. I don't get sick often anymore. Because I mask.

We were at the emergency vet yesterday.

Also, never ask someone why they're wearing a mask! Just don't! You're not entitled to people's health info!

Maybe 15 years ago I was in Western Massachusetts with a partner who wanted to check out the Norman Rockwell Museum. I only knew of Rockwell as 1950s kitsch and had low expectations. As it happened, we showed up while an exhibit on Rockwell's Civil Rights legacy was on display. Blew my mind.

Loved this story, not least because I learned that finger limes, the world's weirdest fruit, are being grown a few kms from my house!
Are we ready for Canadian bananas?
All across Canada, adventurous farmers are experimenting by growing exotic fruits.

A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

This is from a symposium of the Worlds leading long covid experts (August 2025) . H/t Charlos on X. This should tell everyone what you need to know. Not one long covid expert without a respirator, no non maskers or gappy surgicals in sight. Experts know it’s airborne and know the health risks.

Oh and if their answer to a section that sounds weird is, "oh well we would never enforce that" then the correct response is, "sounds great, let's delete that then."
This is because if there is a later dispute and they try to twirl their mustache and say "oh ho ho! But when the contract says this, it really means YOU GET FED TO THE ALLIGATOR PIT," then you pull out the email where it says that actually there's a 0.5% fine over the first thirty days.

SO, you want to network but don't know where to begin.

1. DON'T. Make friends instead
2. It's not about what they can do for you
3. Famous people are just people first
4. If you do have to gush, don't just say 'i love your work' , pick one thing and say why. Open ended compliments are awkward
