Something has definitely happened in the tech space where all of these companies have decided people will put up with literally anything because these services are "essential." There's an odd arrogance accompanying "here is our new heinous policy you'll agree to because you can't live without us."

Another fun fact about Steve Buscemi: during the AIDS panic of the mid-1980s, he played an HIV-positive gay man in the indie film PARTING GLANCES.
“If you’re trying to market a film, it’s probably not the thing that people would flock to see,” he said but turning that role down would be “insane” ❤️
Reminder that Steve Buscemi, National Treasure, used to be a firefighter, and when 9-11 happened, he pulled 12 hour volunteer shifts with his old ladder. www.independent.co.uk/arts-enterta...

In case you want to know the first thing I remember about him. :)

Checking in on a DEI colleague over on LinkedIn as he points out that the NFL looking beyond white boomer-rock with Bad Bunny just gave them their biggest ratings in forever (what we call *the point*) and Tiffany agrees but then Tom here chimes in and....yeah, this is why I largely avoid LinkedIn 🫤

“you might lose your job and have to find another one” right as new job openings are sinking to their lowest numbers since covid started shutting everything down is a hell of a midterm year message
Hassett: "There's a chance that job creation lags, productivity skyrockets, profits skyrocket, GDP skyrockets, but then all of the sudden you're making 20 widgets and you can make 20 widgets with fewer persons, and then that person has to find a new job. I think that kind of transition could happen"

I've been to some countries where people live under military rule or autocracy. And without fail, one of the questions I get when they ask about life in the U.S. is whether it's true that Americans just let homeless people die on the street.
During freezing temperatures in Port Arthur, Texas, a 61-year-old homeless man was found dead in his wheelchair outside a convenience store.

He was wearing a hospital gown and no shoes. Authorities say he had been released from a hospital the previous day.

This is a diseased society.

The dull teeth-gnashing about Bad Bunny should be considered in the context of how the right responded to the rise of AOC. She was criticized for having lived in the suburbs and being called Sandy by her friends. How dare she “act White”! How dare he not!

Another great thread in progress unpacking all the “easter eggs” in Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl show. I especially loved learning about Toñita here 🇵🇷🇺🇸❤️⭐
This is Bad Bunny getting a drink from the legendary Toñita who runs a Puerto Rican social club in NYC. She's a fixture in Nuyorican culture and Bad Bunny directly references her in the song saying "Un shot de cañita en casa de Toñita"

Watching the rich throw money at a man who insists "the overriding priority is securing the future of civilization” and thinks the way to do that is with *a moon base* instead of, say, solving the climate crisis or world hunger is enough to drive a good person to madness. Civilization is RIGHT HERE.
