Rachel Maddow: “The Trump economy is not going great. Whatever the opposite is of great, that's how it's going — in just the first month of this year, 2026, the total number of layoffs in this country was more than 108,000 — that's more layoffs in any January since 2009, since the Great Recession”

Peter Mandelson's official role in Gordon Brown's government was actually not that far away from his unauthorised dealings with Jeffrey Epstein. This week's column digs up some inconvenient truths and suggests the problem is much deeper than we're told.

There is a lot of convenient amnesia about Peter Mandelson’s New Labour days. Let’s jog some memories | George Monbiot
Yes, he betrayed the national interest in his dealings with Jeffrey Epstein – but also in his sanctioned role as enabler of corporate power, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Robert Jenrick is lying.

Reform UK have spent, to date, almost £1.5 MILLION with Harding Print Solutions.

They are NOT a local Manchester printer.

They are Reform's go-to print company and have been for a long time.

Home Affairs questions today: the government believes that "the permanence of refugee status in this country is clearly a pull factor, and we are therefore making it temporary".

(The government's reform proposal is to eventually grant settlement after a long period of triennial reviews)
Megyn Kelly just shouting “FOOTBALL IS OURS” at Piers Morgan about Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl show is the perfect example of this moment in time. Put it in a time capsule and send it out into space.

How extraordinarily fortunate for Wes Streeting that the only text messages he sent Peter Mandelson just happened to be exactly the sort of things other Labour MPs want to hear from a potential leadership candidate

It's hard to pick the one maddest element of British politics, but the tradition of committee room table-banging noise assessment before a leader is destroyed surely has to be in the running.

Sheer coincidence all those tweets at the same time.

'He changed the Labour Party' - yes, making it much worse.

The conditions in these ICE detention facilities are actually worse than in CECOT El Salvador. It's hard to understand how this barbarism can be normalised and tolerated in what is supposed to be a law governed democracy.

Jeremy Kyle is "interviewing" Reform UK MPs at their Birmingham rally.

He's presenting his appearance as impartial journalism and claims that he's not "getting political" but he's there as Reform UK's event host, and it's Reform UK - not his employer, TalkTV - that's broadcasting the event.

The only thing that drove McSweeney was to defeat the Labour left, which he was very good at. Once in power, they had nothing to give but supposed 'competence' and 'honesty' - but that fell apart very quickly with the freebie row, and now has collapsed totally with Mandelson. Nowhere to go.

Badenoch thinks she is a world-beater but she is up against self-destructive clowns. Same illusion shared by Starmer etc when they had Johnson and Truss to deal with.

Something magnificent about Kemi Badenoch's self-confidence, and her claim that the Mandelson affair is entirely down to her asking questions at PMQs. Like a toddler who thinks their plastic steering wheel is controlling the car.

The Times calls Keir Starmer's decision to hire Peter Mandelson an "egregious error" which deserves an "inquiry into the appointment process."

Not included is any demand for an inquiry into their own appointment of him, long after his post-conviction relationship with Jeffrey Epstein was exposed
