“In Paris the athletes received 300,000 condoms — two per day each— but the numbers for these Winter Games were significantly lower: not even 10,000,” La Stampa’s report states.

It’s bizarre to me to refer to an entire era in human history as “a mistake”. Like “the Neolithic agricultural revolution was a mistake”. This is actually the opposite of conservatism, which understands that things - especially big things - happen for a reason. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/202...

It’s really a shame because I’m so bad at face recognition i occasionally fail to pick myself out of a photograph and facial recognition glasses would make social events so much easier.

But obviously I’m not going to get a pair because yeesh
Shit like this is why I spent a big chunk of my Meta Ray-Ban Display review talking about privacy and what it mean culturally that we haven't figured out how it works with smart glasses.

I still think a bigger backlash is coming.

Meta reportedly wants to add face recognition to smart glasses while privacy advocates are distracted
The feature could arrive as soon as this year.

That should fucking haunt us all.

Maybe but also I’m reminded how shit his approval rating was during the earlier part of term 1, and that was when he was sucking up the glow from the sluggish Obama recovery that only took hold in the American mind at end of Obama and beginning of trump.

The more I think about it the more I think we could just do entirely open borders and treat national residency the the way we treat state residency. If you live here you pay taxes and are subject to the legal system and can vote while you live here

- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease

This is encouraging. Keep in mind that “get rid of dhs” while what I want, isn’t possible given the current makeup of Congress.

So do these half measures, then elect a bunch of people who are going to do the rest of the thing

fun fact about this: the rough rule of thumb is 1% energy saving for each 1° F you adjust a thermostat down, so if you drop your heat from 72 to 65 F you will save ~7% on energy; so my $368 energy bill would be $350 (70 to 65 F), assuming my *entire* cost was heat (no) www.energy.gov/energysaver/...
I've always been pretty frugal/strict about heating, but I decided to just let it go this year and be comfortable, and my energy bill is the same ?? I've been suffering for nothing

Intent based APIs are useful for all forms of automation, not just AI agents. Tools like Kubernetes leveraged intent based APIs for infrastructure 10 years ago. We called them declarative APIs, which essentially wrap one or more APIs to provide an abstraction.
What I'm reading from the popularity of MCP is that standardizing on REST for APIs may have been a mistake. Intent based APIs, backed by a discovery and example usage mechanism, was the way to go.

JSON-RPC seems to have provided the foundation for new protocols like MCP to close the gap.
