Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

For decades I've been telling progressives: 'Don't blow off Catholicism! Yeah they got big problems with protecting sexual predators, OK that's not a minor oopsie but... Social justice doctrine is legit good!'
“Why would a prominent venture capitalist [Peter Thiel ally Marc Andreessen] bristle at a pope calling for basic ethics? Because Pope Leo XIV may be the one authority on earth that Big Tech cannot control.” 1/
A tech billionaire mocked Pope Leo XIV’s call for ethical AI.
The post was deleted — but not before exposing Silicon Valley’s deeper discomfort: a pope they can’t buy or bully.
It also revealed something older: the Valley’s original sin — the desire to be God.

Chuck Schumer congratulations you get a 'Fell For It Again' Lifetime Achievement trophy.
UPDATE: The Senate votes 53-47 to shoot down the Baldwin amendment to extend ACA funds for 1 year. A party-line vote with every Republican rejecting it.
An important vote in this series: Tammy Baldwin’s proposal to extend ACA expiring funds for 1 year. It’s structured as a motion to table (i.e. scrap it from the amendment tree). But it’ll show the appetite (or lack thereof) in the Senate to address this issue.

All the good vibes from just a week ago, gone up in smoke for nothing. These guys are terrified of succeeding.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.
Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.
This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

The last week was a major vibe shift where we finally saw the beginning of the end of this nightmare so of course Democrats decided they couldn't have any more of that.
I keep seeing regular Americans taking more risks every day to fight tyranny, want, and cynicism than I see from the opposition party, and I imagine many of those regular Americans are asking themselves what the value proposition of such an opposition party is, really

There we go. Who else will follow the lead here.
Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced. If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?

Lol come on Rick Scott be a hero for once.
So the Senate vote to advance the funding deal is currently 56-40. All the Democrats have voted. FOUR Republicans have not yet voted: John Cornyn, Rick Scott, Ron Johnson and Mike Lee. All of them need to vote YES to get this to 60, otherwise it fails.

I am obviously not defending Trump's economic policies but we are not currently in a scenario anywhere near as bad as the Great Recession. People forget how awful that economy was.
In the 2000s, just ten percent of Americans believed the government was doing a poor job on economic policy. Today, that's 64%, higher than at any point in our history, beating the oil shocks, wage and price controls, the great inflation, any major recession, financial crisis or pandemic.

But instead of asking him questions I'd just make him watch AI videos depicting him getting launched into the sun.

Q: Food prices are still going up. Grocery prices are still going up. How do you respond?
MIKE JOHNSON: All of the economist have shown that food prices always go up. There's an inflationary level that's built in to grocery prices.
