This is like the fascist logic of racism. Fascism was about stating the quiet part out loud. Trumpism has been normalizing racism since day 1.

An American fascist tradition of racism is now conflated with the global fascist tradition. The Nazis wanted people to “learn to think like a racist.” But even the Nazis regarded the American “one drop rule” as too extreme.

Fascist forms of propaganda represent an inspiration for wannabe fascists worldwide. As S. Kracauer explained in 1936, unlike other forms of propaganda that have fixed goals, fascist propaganda “breeds itself anew time and again.”

When a leader becomes so weak & unstable, lies need to be amplified even more. Without them his cult of personality weakens. This might be insane but it needs to be understood historically. Fascism is more than ever the main ideological precedent for Trump's lies.

As a historian of (neo)fascism, I believe that the antidemocratic turn in the US is clearly much more problematic than in other nations. As in interwar Europe, elites are enabling authoritarianism with fascist connotations
