Hey so I know I probably don't need to say this, but none of this is true.

Its kind of jarring reading a Supreme Court justice lying about things I literally saw with my own eyes.

As a business owner, it's VERY hard to break up with ULINE.

I've tried. There are some things we just cannot effectively source elsewhere.

One time I even decided to pay a premium to get paper bags somewhere else. They were just ULINE branded bags being re-sold at markup.
Much of the cardboard and paper goods strewn about our homes are sold by a single private company, with its name, Uline, stamped on the bottom.

Many may not know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country.

That Cardboard Box in Your Home Is Fueling Election Denial
A previously unreported boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline has provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country.

if you are going to plead on behalf of black and brown people to oppose efforts to place restrictions on people convicted of driving under the influence, you should also acknowledge that black and brown people are more likely than others to be killed in traffic accidents, especially as pedestrians
what even is this argument Jamelle
someone tell the California ACLU who is disproportionately more likely to be killed in traffic accidents including those involving people under the influence

DHS used a wide variety of weapons against people in Elgin yesterday, not only tear gas. Some wild photos in this writeup from @domguan.bsky.social:
ICE Tear Gasses Residential Area During Multi-Hour Elgin Apprehension
About 30 to 40 federal agents, about half marked as ICE agents, deployed at least six tear gas canisters, pepper balls, and foam rounds at over 200 protesters in a residential neighborhood on Maple…

I have semi-unavoidable occasion to drive through the jane byrne at the busy times and I would gladly pay extra for my sins
Congestion pricing when?
And guess what the solution is? More safe and convenient options for Chicagoans other than driving!!! Car traffic congestion in Paris, London and NYC have not increased, hmmm, wonder why???

Man what really grinds my gears about the budget is it would be so easy for Johnson to say "crime is down BECAUSE I invested in all those summer jobs/services/etc, we should do more of that!" What if we used this once-in-a-generation crime decrease to argue for things that actually decrease crime?

Car dependency is expensive, yes, but living in a walkable/bikeable area well served by public transit is *also* really expensive. In order to free people from the financial stranglehold of car dependency, we need to make the alternative more affordable.

One reason we failed in the past is bc we didn't build up popular opposition to the crimes, whether it's torture or drone-killing or even attacking Congress.

Now is the time to do that, not after Dems retake power.
If Democrats are ever in power again what’s going to happen is the idea of holding this administration accountable for breaking the law every single day is immediately going to be made out as the greater breach of the rules.

Ex-official explained this in a way that will stick with me forever: Within fire departments, the EMTs are overworked and underpaid and don’t have time to advocate for policy. The fire chiefs, on the other hand, have a lot more time on their hands. So fire response, not medical, dictates policy.

This is the future Mayor Johnson and City Council are keeping from you. #PlowTheSidewalks
I know that many other cities don’t plow their sidewalks, leaving it up to property owners. This is completely crazy to me.

Our sidewalk plows look like this and they do a pretty good job.

What if — hear me out — instead of hiring a person to only plow in front of a single business, we hired them to go down the entire block….and the next…and the next…

We could even have a small fleet to cover whole swaths of the city. #PlowTheSidewalks
But *how* will they #PlowTheSidewalks? With what technology?

Yesterday, I became the first member of Congress in years to visit the Broadview ICE Processing Facility so I could conduct critical oversight on what’s happening inside.

Turns out this was all much ado about nothing and Google isn’t using your Gmail to train AI and if wanna turn all that stuff back on you can get your spam filters back
Looks like the article has been updated to suggest maybe they misread the policy.

I see people complaining that this also disabled their spam filters, though I still see new messages showing up in spam so it's still working fine for me after disabling things.

At a recent gathering of Rogers Park volunteers, we heard from a neighbor who choked up telling us about their dad turning around and going home when he heard whistles up the street. "One of you may have saved his life that day." It all matters, it really does.
One thing that is tough about rapid response/patrols, besides constantly being threatened by armed secret police, is that for the most part they see the defeats. There are exceptions, but you’ll never know how many people were saved by slowing feds down, whistles, community alerts, etc.

If I can give 3 pieces of unsolicited advice to people facing ICE/CBP:
1) go outside
2) meet your neighbors
3) be loud

They want you to be isolated and afraid so they can work in secret, control the narrative, and act with impunity. They lose power when we see what’s happening and to whom.

Remember when city council didn’t pass the #plowthesidewalks pilot?

Isn’t it amazing how the city enabled this icy slide to develop on their property (a bridge), and it stops immediately at a private property’s sidewalk frontage?
