People should support Juliana Stratton (IL), Abdul El-Sayed (MI), Penny Flanagan (MN), and Karishma Manzur (NH). All can win against their centrist opponents, and the Senate will look much different if they do. Donating/phone banking/canvassing is a good place to direct anxious political energy.

🗳️ We proudly endorse Robert Peters for Congress in IL-02. As a community organizer & state senator, he's championed legislation for justice, fought ICE, taken on predatory health insurers & worked for everyday people trying to make ends meet. Let's send @robertpeters.bsky.social to the U.S. House!

Every poll that's come out recently has shown Kelly in a distant third. Time to rally round Stratton.

Look, all I'm saying is that if you just spent the last six years being frustrated with Durbin and you think there's a chance he's about to be replaced with a guy who thanks ICE for their service and takes AIPAC and crypto money, you should treat it like a very serious emergency

Juliana Stratton is the obvious pick. I hate even having to weigh in here. It's plain as day, and the frontrunner is so bad. Folks, this needs to get turned around. Like desperately. Phone bank for Stratton, talk to your friends, anything, just please, Illinois, NO.

The problem is car dependency, car-centric urban design, and the motonormativity fostered by those. Self-driving cars will not solve this and will actually entrench us in Car World and make it even harder to get to the solutions: better public transit and safe streets infrastructure.

this is a good example of the ICE/DHS tactic I'm talking about, and how the system is operated with an eye to keeping a person in detention long enough that the detainee requests their own removal. both a labor saving tactic and ideologically aligned with ICE's anti-migrant culture.
There's been lots of attention on 1 particular inexperienced & untrained govt lawyer
But I want to give a shout-out to Kira Kelley,
climatedefenseproject.org/profile/kira...,
who focused on ICE's horrific treatment of an immigrant prisoner -- all occurring *after* the court had ordered him released

Ha nice. There’s a long, glorious and often corny tradition of “SOTU political stunt guests” but this is a good one and they richly deserve it. Imagine rolling into the US CONGRESS like “I lived, bitch.”

From Powerlessness to Power
We will not achieve any of our ultimate goals without exercising state power, and the most effective way to take state power is through nonviolent but confrontational resistance.

One who breaks an unjust law must do so openly, lovingly, and with a willingness to accept the penalty. I submit that an individual who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice is expressing the highest respect for law. -MLK
even if it isn't a bluff, "getting arrested on a bullshit pretext by a brutal government" was in fact one of the recurring tactics of the civil rights movement!

I asked my PCP a few years ago to test my titers. She said “I could do that - or I could just give you a Measles vaccine now to save time. It can only help and there is no downside”

Just ask for one
so, anyways, if you’re not vaccinated against measles, it’s a great idea to change that; if it’s been a few decades, check your titers & see if a booster would make sense
It appears there is now a measles outbreak at the Dilley family detention facility. www.sacurrent.com/news/san-ant...

The last time Democrats had a filibuster-proof trifecta they enacted the largest expansion of public welfare in half a century through Obamacare. The last time Democrats had a trifecta they spent trillions of dollars on infrastructure to fight climate change and tax credits for families.
The thing is, the Dems don't want to use the power of the state when they win it. They wan to normalize and institutionalize the worst excesses of those who came before them. So even winning back state power in the way I've understood it my whole life is weak balm for this.

Can confirm. Nothing has changed on the ground. ICE still attacking people, kidnapping, all that stuff—and the city is still out protecting and helping neighbors
Absolutely surreal to continue to hear about drawdowns and lowered temperatures and things calming down in Minneapolis when, as far as I can tell, literally nothing has changed on the ground
