Aurin is an excellent CM - she’s incredibly intelligent, thoughtful; she has deep understanding of systems & governance. Aurin’s authenticity, ethics, experience, & integrity coupled with her deep commitment to serving others means W12 is well represented by her. I’m grateful for her leadership.
And another thing. I’m a damn good effective council member, I show up for my ward, I am connected to my neighbors, and I pass solid policy. I wish this could’ve been highlighted in my race by those who observed it— instead of my odd opposition. IG that’s the life of being a women of color in office

The administration’s new proposal for Continuum of Care funding “shifts billions to short-term programs that impose work rules, help the police dismantle encampments, and require the homeless to accept treatment for mental illness or addiction.”

Advocates are voicing grave warnings after the Trump administration on Thursday unveiled its plan to slash funding for long-term housing programs, cuts that could leave nearly 200,000 people at risk of becoming homeless.

It guts long-term housing programs, helps dismantle encampments, and forces mental illness and addiction treatment.

"Groups of kids, groups of East African kids that are coming from surrounding communities and not just one community, kind of all over the place," O'Hara told WCCO.

Excuse me? Blaming and targeting the East African community is disgraceful.

A lot of interesting information just in these excerpts:

✅ The city saved money by building its own restroom rather than outsourcing.
✅ City staff was able to experiment with design features to ensure success.
✅ Good staffing by effective ambassadors improved conduct.

Good job, team 👊

I know this is a rhetorical question and also think I know the answer.
Why the fuck is this framed as “teenager chose to prostitute herself and ruined the career of innocent congressman”
A teenager in Florida with a homeless parent wanted money for braces and ended up having sex for money with powerful men, setting off a chain of events that would have a dramatic impact on her life and help upend the political career of Representative Matt Gaetz. nyti.ms/49PSkL9

A lesson learned from two organizing groups (DFL Senior Caucus and Minneapolis Families for Public Schools) is that good organizing can take months or years to bear fruit. And it’s worth the wait!

Michael ran a wonderful campaign, one that's about as selfless as possible. In my eyes, he centered the mission and knocked for other candidates who really needed it, incl. Jason Garcia and Ethrophic Burnett in the closing days of the election. Our city is better even just for his efforts. Thank you
Elections are one tool in the democratic toolkit - yesterday it was voting, and tomorrow we will keep organizing. I am proud to have run this race with the support of @twincitiesdsa.org, and to continue building with my political home (Join DSA act.dsausa.org/s/3311.R6gRaz).

Roper should name some of these “far left” policies instead of just using the term to prompt handwringing.

Police accountability. Rent stabilization. City owned grocery stores. Improved public transit. More affordable housing. Housing first approach to homelessness.

Doesn’t sound “radical” to me!

8. I hope going forward Eric & the Strib spend as many keystrokes truly looking into how power moves around Frey as they did typing “far left‘ in this election. I swear they must get a treat every time they do that.

@ericroper.bsky.social brushing over the role media played in propping up Frey. Where was the media condemnation of the deeply racist snake oil attack ads on Robin or the AOM flyers that darkened Fateh's skin? Why did no one care about Frey deleting his texts and voicemails when ICE was in town?
Some thoughts on Eric Roper’s finger-wag in the mayor’s race: www.startribune.com/jacob-frey-r...
1. Asking “what chance did [Davis & Hampton] have ignores Frey’s agency is creating the race‘s dynamics. Frey sued the most moderate hope (Emily Koski) to cut off her money & intimated others. 1/
Roper: Jacob Frey can thank the far left for handing him another term
Frey was a vulnerable incumbent. But progressives banked on the wrong guy to beat him.

“Democrats should no longer fear the trans fight. Engage with voters, learn what they care about and design your messaging around that.”
For @msnbc.com I wrote about how Tuesday's election gives Democrats the blueprint for overcoming Republican anti-trans attacks and how thus should settle all the talk about throwing trans people under the bus.

Opinion | Democrats’ election wins showed they don't need to hide their support for trans rights
Republicans repeated Trump's anti-trans strategy from 2024 and lost big. This should be instructive for Democrats.

They also spent resources on not just election literature, but on ensuring residents are armed w/info to protect ourselves and our neighbors in this terrifying era. One example of campaign lit:
